| Tom Brady's 2007 Season Is Great, But Peyton Manning's 2004 Season Was Better ![]() Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is doing everything in his power to set the all-time single-season passing touchdowns record, and he might get it Saturday night against the Giants. But it's important to note that even if he gets it, that doesn't make his 2007 season as impressive as the 2004 season of the current record holder, Peyton Manning. For starters, Manning didn't keep trying to pile up the stats once the Colts had things wrapped up in 2004: Manning sat out more fourth quarters than Brady, and he played just one series and threw two passes in the Colts' Week 17 game that year. And Aaron Schatz has this to say at Fox Sports: let's compare Brady's 2007 season to Manning's 2004 season. Manning had 49 touchdowns with just 497 pass attempts. If we assume Brady plays next week like he has the last few games, he'll end up with something like 51 touchdowns in 570 pass attempts. Yes, that gives him more touchdowns, but it isn't as impressive when it takes him 73 more pass attempts to score them. In addition, Brady has now dropped to 8.3 average yards per attempt. In his record-setting season, Manning averaged 9.2 yards per attempt. That's a huge difference. Brady has been straining so hard to set records in conventional stats that his season now looks worse in the eyes of advanced stats. | Re: Tom Brady's 2007 Season Is Great, But Peyton Manning's 2004 Season Was Better A few years from now when it is all in the record books those facts will not appear. This article is the same as saying that certain players (in all sports) should have an asterisk next to their name for whatever reason. Nope ... if Tommy boy breaks the stats then the record is his. If you disagree with that then you open up room for arguments like if Pedro was still pitching for the Red Sox then he'd have the ring.

| Re: Tom Brady's 2007 Season Is Great, But Peyton Manning's 2004 Season Was Better Yeah, the record's the record, but I can see the point about evalutating season vs. season, looking at the big picture. Brady may not be having the better individual season, once you put everything together, but he's definitely captain of what is arguably the most potent offensive unit I've ever seen.

| Re: Tom Brady's 2007 Season Is Great, But Peyton Manning's 2004 Season Was Better One must remember that the Patriots get to play the 1-14 Dolphins, the 3-12 Jets, and the impotent Bills twice each. This has greatly enhanced their stats and appearance. |

| Re: Tom Brady's 2007 Season Is Great, But Peyton Manning's 2004 Season Was Better Well I'm not a Pats fan (Cowboys) but I will say Jets, Bills and Dolphins are bad teams this year and Pats already plus 6 in wins before the season begun. But they had 10 other opponents to throw everything including the kitchen sink at'em but all have failed (assuming Giants fail Saturday). So Tommy boy earned it no matter the circumstances. Be like Brady and play all 16 games. After all, records are made to be broken! First and last time, Go get'em Brady! |
