Pro Football Hall of Famer Earl Campbell barely follows the NFL anymore, and he's not real happy with the league, seeing as it left him crippled and his old team, the Houston Oilers, doesn't exist anyway.

But there's one thing that makes him even more unhappy: Patriotgate. Here's what he had to say about Patriots coach Bill Belichick and the videotaping of opponents' signals, according to Chad Peters of the San Antonio Express-News.

"I think if I was the commissioner, I would fire him," Campbell said. "And I'd also fix it so he couldn't coach in the NFL anymore. And those teams that played (and won three Super Bowls), I'd consider that a tie. The other teams would get a ring, too. .

"We try to teach our young kids how to be honest and all that," Campbell said, "and here we've got grown people. ..... (Belichick) is no better than those guys in baseball taking them steroids.
"..... If they win the Super Bowl, I think there should be an asterisk by the Patriots' name. And if they don't win, I still think there should be an asterisk by their name. Because that's wrong. A lie is a lie."

That's a whole lot of talk from someone who through his own admission "barely follows the NFL anymore, and he's not real happy with the league, seeing as it left him crippled and his old team".

Sounds like someone with an axe to grind and doesn't care who he sharpens it on.

yeah i suppose the Carolina Panthers players that lost to the Pats in the Super Bowl should also get rings ......... oh wait .. that's right .. a bunch of them were on steroids

Well, what about that part? Here we have the top team in the league with a really cool quarterback and now kids learn they didnt play fair. What is that teaching them??

A more true statement probably could not be spoken. Now lets be realistic. I don't think there are too many people that will argue that what happened with the video taping was completely wrong. I despise any type of unfair play. Now lets also recognize that "cheating" goes on at every level of sports. Even kids are not immune to this. If we as a society were really as upset as we make it out to be ... little of this stuff would happen and when it did the offenders would be gone. We are no where near that scenario ... too bad !!!

True, Nation wide survey of High school kids going into college show a wide percentage feel that bending the rules a bit is okay...so its all a reflection of the nation we have become...

I also find the bending of the rules at times to be OK. That is how things get changed. You need people willing to be able to push things to their limits to test them.

Bending, pushing the limits, cheating. Where is the line and who will draw it?? That is part of the issue now. What one sees as illegal another sees as "pushing the limits."
