Do football fans hate the New England Patriots? They're winners on the field, but outside of those who faithfully follow the Pats, how many NFL fans like this franchise and how many can't stand them? They're under so much scruitiny for their actions, refs get accused of cheating to help them win, papers put asterisks next to their win-loss records, and their star quarterback's on pace to shatter records this year, yet he doesn't even lead the Pro Bowl voting. So what's the deal? Are they becoming the NFL's Yankees or Fighting Irish - the team eveyone else loves to hate?

Well, maybe they're just jealous. Or maybe they dislike the atttiude of the team and the coach. Or maybe it's something in between.

Actually, they wouldnt bother me at all if it wasnt for LSC and simon.

But I know there's a lot of negative stuff out there. Maybe its just because they are so good.
They are getting pretty darn arrogant. Its not going to be like the Yankees though. This year they are going down. Their win streak is at an end.

I think it is just natural to "hate" the best teams. Dallas is another example of a love em or hate em team.

This year the tables seemed to turn that way a bit for the Pats.

OK ... now for my honest opinion. Domination in any sport creates hatred. The Yankees who have won a few world series are hated. A few of the players on that team are hated. In my sport of choice, NASCAR, Hendricks Motor Sports and it's teams are hated for their domination. I guess we'd all be naive to think that Tiger Woods is loved by all. The hatred will carry on for years after the domination ceases. It's just a part of who we are and it won't be changing anytime soon.

Definitely, though, if you look at dynasties - Tiger and Roger Federer definitely seem to get more of a free pass than the Yankees, HMS and, this year, the Patriots. Do you think it's just sour grapes because they're winning? Or are there some hard feelings from the videotape scandal and the perception that they run up the score on people?

Yes but a qualified yes. A lot of people do not like Belichick so when the video tape scandal erupted it added fuel to the fire. People dislike him because of his non-emotions on the field, because of the way he dresses. Running up the score will always be a subjective call. ... especially by those who do not like the team. Could they/should they have taken Brady out ??? Once again it is a subjective call. Teams play to win and the bigger the margin the more positive feeling the team has about their abilities.

Sour grapes ... well of course, but I find that the folks with the true hate for other teams cannot and will not recognize the success of any other team at all. If you look at stats (not just for the Patriots) and leave out the subjective opinions, usually the team that is in 1st place has the best stats.

The coach is as unlikeable a fellow as there is in the sport and people are sick and tired of getting Brady's pretty boy image crammed down their throats. Couple that with their domination and attitude that their way is the only "right" way and people despise them.
