NE Patriots draft Lawrence Maroney

Corey Dillon is getting old and has been dinged up, so it isn't a huge surprise that Belichick and company went RB. Surprised that he went with Maroney over Williams, but he obviously must seem something in this kid he likes. Thoughts about this pick?

Re: NE Patriots draft Lawrence Maroney

it really seemed to me the needed better O-line help

the line was so beat up last year

linebacker help would have been nice too

i think Dillon has atleast 2 more good yrs left and they have Faulk

They shouldnt have given a 29 year old Corey Dillion that big contract. He was on the downside of his career even when they signed him and were better off drafting a rookie or signing a journeyman RB.

Not sure I'd agree that Dillon has 2 really good years left. He seems to be falling off awful rapidly. Offensive line and LB would've been good picks, too. Which player on the board at that time do you think they should have selected, Simon and Saruman?

I agree. This reminds me of the Jets giving a big fat contract to a 31 year old Curtis Martin or to a lesser extent what the Cards did with Edge.

Re: NE Patriots draft Lawrence Maroney

the ESPN guys were really touting the Otis kid as a good O-lineman

seems it would have made more sense

Why? You feel the Pats line is weak? I think that Dillion's slowing down which is apparent only if a bit right now is a more pressing issue. The Pats/Dillon again are reminding me of the Jets/Curtis Martin contract.

i dont think their line is weak at all

i think they dont have good enough reserves

think that became painfully evident last year when Light was hurt

if the starting line and Dillon were all healthy for an entire year i think he could fairly easily get 1200 yards again

but if someone goes down again they are all screwed again
