Pats Moss holds grudge against Cowboys

Of all the teams that passed on Randy Moss in the 1998 draft, including the Patriots, who took Robert Edwards at No. 18, three spots ahead of Moss, the one he blamed more than any other was the Cowboys. Moss apparently received hints from Dallas front office personnel that if he were available to them at the No. 8 spot in the first round, he'd be on his way to Texas. Instead, the Cowboys went with defensive end Greg Ellis and Moss plummeted to Minnesota as the 21st pick. While Jones eventually said he made a mistake (some say it's one of the biggest regrets Jones has in his ownership tenure), Moss never let the Cowboys live it down. Moss has played six games against the Cowboys since the '98 draft snub and scored 10 touchdowns while averaging over 23 yards per catch. He's never lost to them and never failed to make an impact, even while playing with a terrible Raiders team in 2005. -- Boston Herald

With all the chaos Moss has created thru the years, Ellis was the better deal. Only thing is, its kind of ironic that they passed on one troublemaker and took another later. But then again, maybe they both have grown up some. The really really bad thing about Moss is Dallas has no one in the secondary that can cover him. I am still looking for a 7ft. basketball player to help out here.

No way...I would have taken him just like I would take TO...but that is hindsight and Ellis has been injured prone.

I know as a college player he was a troublemaker and he had a mouth but not really in the NFL, when I think of troublemaker in the NFL I think of chris henry, vick or pacman..

What people forget is that Cris Carter mentored Moss for a long time in Minnesota. What would Randy have been like had another team - one without a veteran wideout willing to do what Carter did - drafted him? He might've been as big of a punk as Henry, Pacman, et. al.

Re: Pats Moss holds grudge against Cowboys

Didn't Randy Moss often take out his mouthpiece when the ball wasn't coming his way, sort of tipping off the D?

And he did have that issue with the school crossing guard, something about tapping her with his car. Not hard, but still a jerk move.

I would still have drafted him though!

It seems like that time and others he had a few issues with those funny cigs Ricky Williams likes.
At that time, most teams would have drafted him. They are supposed to get a little pickier now. But then again you have the Cowboys signing Tank and the Packers signing Robinson.

I know before he went to Marshall and made his defenders look silly, he was kicked out of Notre Dame and Florida State I think..

Re: Pats Moss holds grudge against Cowboys

Here's the story from Wikipedia.

Quote:
Randy Moss - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
After originally signing a letter of intent to play college football with Notre Dame in 1995, Moss took part in a racially-charged fight at his high school that left one person hospitalized. He entered a plea of guilty to battery, and received probation along with a 30-day suspended jail sentence.[3] Notre Dame subsequently revoked his scholarship, but this did not stop another high-profile college football program from giving him a chance. Notre Dame officials suggested he attend Florida State due to the reputation of its coach, Bobby Bowden, for handling troubled players.[4] However, because of his signed letter of intent at Notre Dame, the NCAA considered him a transfer student, which made him ineligible to play for the Seminoles in the 1995 football season. He was red-shirted in his freshman season.[4] While at Florida State, Moss ran a 4.25 40-yard dash,[5] with only Deion Sanders being faster (4.23).

In 1996, while serving his 30-day jail sentence in a work-release program from 1995, Moss tested positive for smoking marijuana, thus violating his probation, and was let go by Florida State. He served an additional 60 days in jail for the probation violation.[4]

Ultimately, Moss transferred to Marshall University, about an hour's drive from his home.
So that's the checkered past of one Randy Moss.
