WVCB in Boston reports that Pats coach Bill Belichick has been summoned to New York by Commissioner Roger Goodell to answer questions regarding allegations that the Patriots were stealing defensive signals on Sunday against the Jets.

WEEI in Boston reports that the Patriots deny the WVCB report.

Either way, this issue is generating all sorts of buzz in league and media circles. Though it could be driven by the perception that the Patriots are the top organization in the league and the other 31 franchises would love to seem them take a fall, there's just too much smoke on this one to disregard it.

I heard a report that said the league has ruled that the Pats were in fact targeting and stealing signs. If it's the harshest penalty, they could lose a draft pick or multiple picks.

Yeah I heard they definitely taped the Jets but I doubt they'll take any draft picks from them. A fine is what they'll get. Picture "The Tuck Rule" but being played out in a disciplinary office type setting.

This isn't the first time that they have done this according to ESPN, as they were warned in a Green Bay game. That tells me that they have done it all the time. Embarrassing situation for the model franchise of the league. They need to lose draft picks for this. I guess anybody can be a genius when you know what's coming. Belichik should have tried this in Cleveland.

The NFL is discussing docking New England one or more draft picks in response to allegations that the Patriots violated a league rule by videotaping Jets defensive coaches on the sideline of their game against New York on Sunday, FOXSports.com's Jay Glazer reports.


NFL security confiscated a video camera and tape from a Patriots employee during New England's 38-14 victory. While the league rule states that no video recording devices of any kind are permitted to be in use in the coaches' booth, on the field, or in the locker room during the game, the Patriots employee is also accused of specifically trying to steal signals from New York by videotaping Jets coaches on the sideline during the season opener.
"With anything along those lines, those are all league-related matters, and anything that deals with an issue like this or anything on a team-by-team basis, those all go to the league," Jets coach Eric Mangini said in his news conference Monday.

some of you guys crack me up .... obviously you know i love the Pats and the Sox ..... but i am not biased in matters like this (as im sure many of you know as well) ...... if Brady were caught with roids i would want him sat down .... if he were caught fighting dogs i would want him sitting next to Vick

as for this ..... let the penalty come as it may, they deserve it ..... but if any of you believe the Pats are the only ones doing it youre foolish .... if you think youre team isnt doing it youre delusional ......... the Pats were just sloppy and got caught

Simon, obviously there isn't only one team attempting to catch signs. However, the Pats did get caught and were blatant in their execution of the sign stealing.

This comes after the Commish went out of his way to tell all teams that behavious was not something he would allow. Plus, ESPN said the Pats were one of the teams accused of doing it in the past.

This foolish act tarnishes everything they have accomplished the last few years, no less than steroid suspicions cloud how we look at certain baseball and football players. The Pats have "pushed the envelope" on this as the local sports shows have put it up here in New England, when they didn't have to. This is taken seriously by the NFL, and of course everyone has tried it, but the Patriots have gone too far from what I am reading and hearing.
