Nebraska running game

"We always want to run the ball," Offensive Coordinator Shawn Watson told the media after yesterday's practice. "Our first goal is to run the football... We want to be a balanced attack, and to do that you’ve got to have a run game, and from that you can develop a passing game. It’s always something we put a lot of time and effort into."

Only two true RBs are listed on the team's roster:
19 Castille, Quentin RB 6-1 235 Fr. La Porte, Texas (La Porte)
10 Helu, Roy RB 6-0 220 Fr. Danville, Calif. (San Ramon Valley)

So who's expected to carry the load on the ground for the Cornhuskers in 2007?

Marlon Lucky and Cody Glenn are expected to get the bulk of the carries with possible contributions from Major Culbert and Marcus Mendoza. Quentin Castille is a freshman as is Roy Helu, they likely will both redshirt this year. Kenny Wilson is hurt and may miss this year.

Marlon Luck had a fab prep career and had some big games against lesser competition last year it seems...but he wasn't so hot aganist bigger competition like USC. Still he catches the ball well out of the backfield and he's suppose to have 4.4 speed....you got to like that.

Lucky likely would have had far better numbers if Nebraska didn't use 4 different tailbacks last year. Literally, all 4 of them started at least one game. The only problem I saw with Lucky was his lack of size and strength but he has put on some muscle now and should be even more effective. On top of that, Brandon Jackson went to the NFL and Kenny Wilson has been injured, so going in it appears to be Lucky and Cody Glenn as the main 2 guys, unlike last year when they started out with 4 main guys. For many RBs, they need more touches to really get into a rhythym, Lucky should get his opportunity to shine this year.
