Big12 Title Game

As of now the Huskers have to wait for the Oklahoma-Oklahoma State game to end before knowing who they will be facing in Kansas City next saturday. A loss by the Texas Longhorns to the arch rival Texas A&M opened the door for the Sooners to sneak into the title game with a win over the Cowboys. The Bedlam game is in Stillwater this year and the Cowboys have a young but dangerous offense that can put up scores quickly. Sooners defense has kept them in every game and if not for the Oregon loss might well be involved in BCS title talks. As a traditional old school Husker fan, I prefer to face Oklahoma in the title game. It has been a long time since these two met so late in the season with a major bowl game on the line.

Re: Big12 Title Game

It will be Nebraska and Oklahoma in the Big 12 title game, with Nebraska winning by 14.

That's my prediction, but all you need to do is look back at some of my past post to know that I'm not always right, (reguardless of what I tell my wife.)

Re: Big12 Title Game

Who would have thought Nebraska had a shot to be in a BCS Bowl game. That shot is close to becoming a reality though.

Re: Big12 Title Game

Here's what Coach Callahan had to say about the win:

"This was a great team win for our football team today. I was really proud of the way we came off the bye and executed in so many areas. There were contributions across the board that we are extremely proud of, especially our special teams and the way they stepped up; our defense and Adam Carriker and the way he played; our offense and the way we executed at times. Overall, it was just an excellent team win for us. We're excited about going to Arrowhead (Stadium) and being part of the championship game. We are excited to represent the North and do our best."

"My hat goes off to Colorado. They came in here and they gave us everything they had. They fought hard. You saw some of the hits out there, and they were collision hits. Their record is not indicative of the team they can be. We have a lot of respect for Colorado and for their players and their coaches. They came in here with a whole different offense that we hadn't even seen or prepared for, so we had to adjust on the fly at the half."

Re: Big12 Title Game

The match-up is now official, and it's gonna be a great one. 9-3 Nebraska vs. 10-2 Oklahoma. Predictions?

Re: Big12 Title Game

I predict that there won't be an empty seat in Arrowhead Stadium for this one. Since the inception of the Big12 Conference, most people originally expected to see these two teams battle in this game regularly. The reality as we end the 11th season of Big 12 football is that this will be the first ever meeting between these two in the title game. This will be the 4th trip to the Big 12 Title game for the Huskers but the first time since 1999. This will be Oklahoma's 5th conference title game with all 5 of those appearances coming after Nebraska's last appearance. The fans will be extra excited for this one as both schools fanbases have waited for these two to meet in this game for many years. Let me make my unbiased pick. Huskers win 165-0.

OK, make that
Huskers 28
Sooners 21

35-31 Nebraska, just like a game they played long ago that was virtually for the National Title.

Re: Big12 Title Game

Oklahoma by 10. Nebraska's defense is not good enough to stop the OU running game. On top of that, I just don't think a 3 loss Nebraska deserves a BCS game. The Big 12 was not that great this year and the North division was a JOKE.

Huskers Fall in Big 12 Title Game

Kansas City, Mo. - No. 8 Oklahoma played nearly mistake-free football and Nebraska was unable to capitalize on several second-half opportunities, as the Sooners won the 2006 Big 12 title with a 21-7 victory over the No. 19 Huskers at Arrowhead Stadium on Saturday night.

In a game dominated by both defenses, the Sooners bent throughout the night but broke only once to drop Big 12 North Champion Nebraska to 9-4 on the season. Big 12 South Champion Oklahoma improved to 10-2 on the year with the victory and earned the conference's Bowl Championship Series berth to the Fiesta Bowl on Jan. 1 in Glendale, Ariz.

The Huskers will also earn a spot in a New Year's Day bowl by accepting an invitation to the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas.

Well, tough loss for the Huskers. But a trip to the Cotton Bowl is a pretty nice consolation prize, don't you think?

Yes. The Cotton Bowl is a nice game. However, playing Auburn wil not be so nice. It should be a very interesting match up.

Re: Big12 Title Game

The Cotton Bowl is not at all nice. I was looking for Fiesta all the way, I only live 100 miles from it. Nebraska shot themselves in their own foot against Oklahoma spotting them an early lead with the first of 5 turnovers on the games first play. Huskers shut down the Sooners rushing game but gave up a huge drive of 99 yards when it looked as if Nebraska had all the momentum and then Paul Thompson hit his TE for a huge 18 yard gain on 3rd and 10 from their own 1 yard line to start a 99 yard TD drive on a very hot streak of passing for Thompson. Nebraska had no trouble moving the ball against this Oklahoma defense, but they did have trouble keeping the ball. Taylor underthrew WRs that were open for TDs on 2 seperate occasions and was intercepted instead because of his poorly thrown balls. It was too bad because the Huskers controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball but couldn't make the plays that were there for them all day.

Re: Big12 Title Game

Regardless, Nebraska did not deserve to be in a BCS game. 3 loss teams should not be playing for a chance to be in a BCS game. I hate the automatic conference qualifiers. It screws too many, more deserving teams.

Wasn't Florida State a 4 loss team in last years Orange Bowl?

Yet another reason the automatic conference qualifiers suck. Pitt v Utah in the Fiesta bowl was another one. Pitt didn't deserve to be there and they proved it by getting spanked.
