Huskers vs USC

There will be a large number of Husker fans at this game which will somewhat neutralize the home field advantage. Huskers weak spot is their defensive secondary which has not yet been really tested. Expect the Trojans to test them there. Nebraska has a lot of depth at most positions allowing them to constantly rotate in fresh players. This could provide an advantage later in the game. ESPN has picked this game for thies college football gameday setting, quite an honor when you consider how many other top matchups take place around the nation this saturday. Anyone have any thoughts on this game?

Re: Huskers @ USC

USC whips Husker @$$ and ESPN regrets not going to Knoxville or Auburn, or even South Bend.

I am enraged they chose this over the other 3.

Every single one of them knows the Trojans are going to have a field day, but they have to start the USC lovefest as soon as possible. I bet they are in tears over last year's rose bowl, so they cannot give the Trojans any more publicity.

(sorry desertrat but I am angry about this and it is showing.)

ESPN is there because they miss the Huskers also. I personally think they should be at Autzen Stadium in eugene, oregon so that people east of the rockies could get a feel for just how great a college game day atmosphere they have up there. I have been to a lot of games all over the country and Autzen is as loud as anyplace else I have ever been(including 3 SEC venues).

Re: Huskers @ USC

Where in the SEC did you go?

They are loud, but I dont think it is as loud as Neyland after a heartstopping win like Florida in 2004 or Florida in 1998. Autzen is loud, (much in part due to the stands being about 5 yards from the field), but when Neyland is rocking, it can't keep up with all 108,000.

Re: Huskers vs USC

I've been to Arkansas, Ole Miss(when they had Eli at QB), and Alabama. I used to spend more than half my life on the road and took advantage of it to attend sporting events everywhere I possibly could. I would have made more games but too many interfered with Huskers games on TV. Ticket availability was another issue that prevented me from going to a Georgia-Georgia Tech game in Athens in the 90s.

Not saying they weren't loud, I am just saying they weren't as loud as Autzen in Eugene, Oregon. It gets pretty crazy up there, especially if they get a big time opponent there. Just ask Michigan about their trip to Oregon in 2003.

See I can't relate at all...I remeber a good crowd at UCF (back in the late 80's) being 20,000 not so vocal fans...

The Nebraska/USC game is on ABC and not ESPN. LSU/Auburn and Florida/Tennessee are both on CBS so settle down. I believe that CBS has first dibs on SEC games anyway. Wouldn't make much sense for the ESPN guys to go down south when they can't cover the games.

Not to mention those teams play each other every year. This is the 1st time USC has faced Nebraska since 1970 when they tied 6-6 in the 1st game of the season. They went on to split the national title that year. Finally, next year USC will make what I believe will be their first ever trip into Lincoln. Famaliar foe Sam Keller should be waiting to welcome them!

I know Autzen is very loud, but no matter what excuse Loyd Carr makes, I am sure it isn't as loud as Penn State or Ohio State.

The game could be on ABC. Just like Notre Dame moved to ABC a few weeks ago for the one gameday game.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. I am pretty sure that CBS has the right of first refusal for SEC home games, and if they choose to air the game, there is nothing ABC or ESPN can do about it.

Re: Huskers @ USC

I am sure NBC had the similar deal with Notre Dame. They somehow got that game, and I don't think they wouldn't have been able to do the same thing considering the SEC.

Last year Tennessee LSU was on ESPN and would have been gameday's game if not for bad weather.

Getting back to the Huskers - Trojans game itself:
Who here is expecting a Nebraska upset in this one. I am - USC isn't as good of a team this year.
