Multiple sources told ESPN.com's Mark Schlabach on Wednesday night, Boston College coach Tom O'Brien has been hired as North Carolina State's new coach.

NC State's board of governors has scheduled a Friday meeting to approve O'Brien's contract.

This makes absolutely no sense to me at all whatsoever! This I'm not even sure is a move forward, I think this might be more of a move backward. Does he have any ties to NC State at all? Are they offering him more money? This makes no sense....

Yeah, I've been scratching my head over this one too. It's got to be a money thing. Why else would O'Brien leave a team that was at one point a Top 25 program this year to go to N.C. State, which is realistically 2-3 years away from being where B.C. is at right now?

I heard him talking about it the other day on espn the radio, and he really just said it was time for him to leave. He really didn't give a reason why he just thought it was time to leave. He said his family loved NC so that might have played into it. Who knows??
