NC State Football Coach Search

I read this a few minutes ago on a blog by one of the Sports writers from WRAL TV 5 who has been really good at reporting correct sports rumors.

Quote:
O'Brien, Johnson Atop NCSU List

Boston College coach Tom O'Brien and Navy coach Paul Johnson are among those getting serious consideration for the vacant N.C. State football coaching job, several sources in the college football community said Wednesday.

Meanwhile, LSU offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher is no longer under consideration by the Wolfpack. Sources said Fisher received word from NCSU on Tuesday that a planned interview would not take place.

"Jimbo was on their B list," a source close to Fisher said. "He was told that they feel good about getting something done with one of the people on their A list, so there was no need for an interview."

State also has been talking, mainly through intermediaries, with Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Norm Chow, Houston Texans assistant head coach Mike Sherman, Vanderbilt coach Bobby Johnson and Tennessee offensive coordinator David Cutcliffe. The Wolfpack also made an inquiry about Arkansas coach Houston Nutt, but it is not known how he responded.

More later....
This comes from this site.

Re: NC State Football Coach Search

Paul Johnson seems to be a popular guy right now; heck, a lot of these guys - Chow, Bobby Johnson, Cutcliffe, etc. - seem to be on everybody's list. Personally, I think the Wolfpack will wind up with one of the two Johnsons, just not sure which one.

Lefty, I think we were both wrong about the Johnsons.

Sources: Wolfpack hire O'Brien over Johnson

By Mark Schlabach
ESPN.com

Boston College coach Tom O'Brien has been hired as North Carolina State's new football coach, multiple sources close to the situation said Wednesday night.

The Wolfpack chose O'Brien over Navy coach Paul Johnson, who was contacted about the job earlier this week. O'Brien, a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, led the Eagles to a 9-3 record this season. He had a 75-45 record in 10 seasons with the Eagles. Boston College plays Navy in the Dec. 30 Meineke Car Care Bowl.

The board of governors has scheduled a Friday meeting to approve O'Brien's contract. Terms of the deal weren't immediately known.

An announcement is expected Thursday.

Re: NC State Football Coach Search

Yeah, I heard about it this morning. Don't understand the move from O'Brien's standpoint, but it's a good hire for NC State.
