I always thought its called the Larry O'Brien Trophy

Yep, the Larry O'Brien NBA Championship Trophy, renamed in 1984 in honor of the late former NBA commissioner Larry O'Brien. O'Brien negotiated the NBA/ABA merger, introduced the salary cap in 1983, signed what is supposedly still the richest TV contract in NBA history back in 1982, took pro basketball to cable, and was commissioner in 1979 when the 3-pointer came into effect. The man definitely put his stamp on the game, that's for sure.

I say it's one of the ugliest Championship trophies in all of pro sports. It's just no pleasing on the eyes IMO. Perhaps I'm just comparing it to its seasonal counterpart, the Stanely Cup. Anyone agree/disagree?

Agree...even the Lombardi trophy has a magestic look to it...The only one uglier might be the World Cup trophy...its a scrawny ugly gold thing.
