Apparently, basketball fans really wanted to see the Lakers and Celtics play each other in the NBA Finals.

According to a report in this mornings papers (I assume from the AP, though it is uncredited), "Through four broadcasts, the 2008 NBA Finals are averaging an 8.8 rating, up 42 percent over last year's 6.2." That's pretty darn impressive if you ask me. Anyone surprised the Finals are bringing in so many viewers?

First of all there is nothing else to watch this time of year! Secondly, Stern knew this was a ratings winner, that's why thet Spurs are home. He desperately needed the Lakers to win the other night to make it go at least 6.

Im not surpirsed. These are to 2 teams that hate each other and have a rivalry. Sounds like a good game to me

It's not really a rivalry any more, but they are two huge market franchises which in the NBA is a big deal, that's why the rating are up, if you ask me.

The longstanding history between them has probably drawn in more than a couple of viewers.

Granted, but the point Seahawker made about how they hate each other, is what I was alluding to, because, that was 20 years, these are two far different teams.

Well, after Phil Jackson whining about the officiating, then Doc Rivers firing back the next game, I'd say if they didn't hate each other coming in, they're getting there are the series wears on!

The funny thing is my radio show has gone up against the Games twice...and I did not really lose any listeners...so I am guessing, I don't have a strong basketball fan base...
