Nashville's Vokoun out for playoffs

The Preditors will be without goaltender Tomas Vokoun for the rest of the season, including the playoffs, with a condition called pelvic thrombophlebitis. He won 36 of Nashville's first 41 games and his win-loss record was ranked 5th in the NHL. Clearly, this is a big loss for the team. But does it kill their hopes for a run at the Cup?

Yep...They are dead...in the words of forward Scott Walker, "Let's not kid ourselves, he's probably the No. 1 reason we are where we are."

says in the paper the goalies now taking over are Chris mason, who's will turn 30 in a couple of weeks, and Pekka Rinne, who has played in 2 NHL games. Neither's played in the post season ever.
To lose your hot goalie would be devastating. But then, look at the new guy who shines in the post season limelight (JS Gigeurre, Hedberg).

Is something seriously wrong with Vokoun? It was some type of blood disorder?

Okay, lacking a medical degree, as far as I can tell pelvic thrombophlebitis is indeed a blood clot, usually associated with phlebitis (inflammation of a vein) that occurs following injury or alongside an infection. When thrombophlebitis occurs in the pevlis, it is usually associated with childbirth, surgery, or a similar condition that forces prolonged bedrest.

What they'll have to do is put him on blood thinners, because wandering around with the threat of a blood clot could mean a stroke, anything like that. They'll have to get his blood regulated so that he is "safe'" - out of danger.
