| NHL Playoffs Predators vs. Sharks A year ago, the Predators couldn't have been happier. They had earned home-ice advantage in the NHL playoffs for the first time in their second postseason and opened as the No. 4 seed, winning the first game. Then they lost the next four to conclude a promising season in an embarrassing thud. So it's only fitting that a team that spent the offseason trying to address the problems exposed by that series opens Wednesday night against the very same team - the San Jose Sharks. "It's sort of ironic," Nashville coach Barry Trotz said Monday of the rematch. "Some of the things we felt we needed to improve upon in the offseason because of that playoff series we did, so it does work out just fine." | Sharks 5, Predators 4, 2OT NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -The San Jose Sharks lost top scorer Jonathan Cheechoo, maybe for the postseason. Then they blew a two-goal lead and watched the Nashville Predators dominate the final 48 minutes... Somehow, the Sharks managed to win their first playoff game of the year. | J.P. Dumont scores two goals as Predators battle to 5-2 win over Sharks Emotions - and tempers - can't get much higher between the San Jose Sharks and Nashville Predators. J.P. Dumont scored a short-handed goal, then added a power-play goal 2½ minutes later, and the Predators evened their Western Conference quarter-final by beating San Jose 5-2 Friday night in a penalty-and fight-filled game. "We came here to play hockey tonight," Nashville coach Barry Trotz said. "We knew it was an important game, and they turn it into a street brawl." San Jose coach Ron Wilson, who lost a player to injury for a second straight game, stalked into the post-game news conference and picked up the microphone. "I have no comment," Wilson said before walking out of the room. Game 3 of the best-of-seven series is Monday night in San Jose. After 32 combined penalties for 141 minutes and six game misconducts in the final minute, the NHL issued a statement not to expect any disciplinary decisions until Saturday. League vice president Colin Campbell will study the incidents and review the game misconducts. J.P.
