Big 3 Wins

These questions refer to Cup wins by brands of the "Big 3" corporations (General Motots, Ford, Chrysler) during the period from 1949 thru 2008.
  1. Which of the Big 3 corporations have won the most races and how many?
  2. Which of the Big 3 corporations have won the fewest races and how many?
  3. Which brand of the Big 3 corporations have won the most races and how many?
  4. Which brand of the Big 3 corporations have won the fewest races and how many?

Re: Big 3 Wins

If I did my calculations correctly (there's a good chance I didn't), these are the answers:

1. GM, 968 total victories
2. Chrysler, 536 total victories
3. Chevrolet, 633 wins
4. Nash, 1 win (Curtis Turner in '51 )

Pretty good. Your answers to #1 & 3 match mine exactly. On #2, Chrysler is the right Corp., but I have a different number of wins (almost 100 less). I'll do a recheck on a different source to see which of us is closest to right.

But, #4 is wrong. Here's why.

In 1954, Nash merged with Hudson creating American Motors. Nash and Hudson production ended on June 25, 1957. From 1958 to 1965, Rambler was the only marque sold by AMC, other than the Metropolitan, which remained in dealer showrooms until 1962. The Rambler name was phased out beginning in 1965 and discontinued after 1969. In 1970 AMC acquired Kaiser Jeep. It wasn't until 1987 that AMC was acquired by Chrysler. So, Nash cars were never a part of Chrysler Corp. and neither Nash Cars nor AMC were ever considered part of "The Big 3" prior to joining Chrysler.

So #4 is still wanting a correct answer.

Re: Big 3 Wins

Just shooting from the hip I would guess at Ford. Absolutely no research done on that guess.

Re: Big 3 Wins

I'm coming up with T-Bird, with only six wins.

BTW, Going with cars which eventually became part of the "Mismanaged Three" add one win for Jaguar, which eventually became Ford, I believe.

Did you read the question? Ford would be one of my last choices as an answer to that question!!!

We're talking about Q4, in case anybody is confused.

Re: Big 3 Wins

I read right over it. Lincoln, with 4
But that's probably wrong, too. How about the cars in the Grand American Series winning in Cup? If that's where we're going then I'd have to go with Camaro, with one but that's not totally correct either because Bobby Allison also won a Cup race in a Mustang but NASCAR disallowed it because he won in a GA car while they gave Tiny Lund his win in a Camaro at N. Wilks.
