Re: First Winner at Daytona International Speedway

It was Shorty Rollins who won the first Daytona 100 lap qualifier. Some of the information given is not correct. Yes, Shorty did win the race with a junk engine, but he didn't bring it with him. The engine came from the Holman - Moody camp. At that time they were the Ford people. In back of their shop was a pile of discarded engines. Shorty's motor had blown that day and he didn't have the money for a new one. Holman tried to sell him a new one and let him pay after the race ($500). Shorty said no thanks to the credit and asked about the engine he had seen on the junk pile. Holman, finally gave in and said he could have that junk. After the race Holman came looking for his $500. lol

Hey turn left, welcome to GoTeamsGo and the NASCAR Forums.

That was an interesting story. Do you have more? Around here we love to hear those stories.

Pensacola, huh? Did you get to the Snowball this year? I hear it was a pretty good race (after they got rid of the NASCAR rif-raf, that is )

Be sure to check out the Motorsports Forum, that's where all the non-NASCAR stuff is supposed to be, though we've only been open a couple weeks and old habits die hard.....

Again, welcome. And hope you stay around long and contribute much to the CoTeamsGo community.

Thanks for the clarification, Lefty. I knew it was a engine that supposedly didn't have a lot of life in it but didn't know it was a H-M "throw-away.

Pensacola, eh? I spend more time at Mobile than I do Five Flags. Do we know each other?
