I thought it was Eddie Pagan who went wire-to-wire on May, 26th at Portland, OR. (Pagan '57 Ford - 150 laps). I completely missed the fact that Quality 88's answer - Art Watts accomplished the feat on April 28th at the same track (100 laps in Al Schmidhamer's '56 Ford).

My face is red and I am asking your forgiveness for this error. I'll really attempt to do better next time. I throw myself at the mercy of the court.

CONGRATULATIONS to QUALITY 88! A job well done!

Well, I've got maybe more bad news. Curtis Turner did it twice in 1950 I believe. Back to back races in fact.

Damn! When I'm wrong I am really wrong!

May 21, 1950
Curtis Turner
Eanes Motor Co '50 Olds 88
150 laps
Martinsville, VA

and in my files I actually have a picture of the car!

I don't show he did it back to back. The next race was won by Bill Rexford. However, Curtis did it again on JUly 2nd in the same car at the Rochester NY Fairgrounds.

Re: Trivia - Aug 12

The only NASCAR driver to win two Grand National races in a row from the pole by leading every lap (Rochester NY and Charlotte NC in July 1950). That's from wikipedia. It could be wrong though

Again, you are correct-o-mundo!

Agggggggghhhhhhhhh! I feel as though I'm in some kind of horrendous time warp!

Sexy... Great question!!! I blew it completely; I was going strictly on gut instinct and didn't refer to my data base and trusty reference (Stock Car Racing Encylopedia, 1997)

My records show Red Byron drove six races for him, Bob Flock one (the first race of the season in a 1949 Parks Novelty Olds Eighty-eight) and Hall drove the last race of the eight race season.

Good question and I learned something from it. Thank you!

I took the liberty of starting a new thread. I have the year but can't find the name of the race.
