| NASCAR Trivia - Big Brother OK... Here is one that is "Google-proof," I believe. You'll have to know a bit about former NASCAR personalities for this one, but if you do this one is obvious and is a piece of cake: What former NASCAR car owner was so obsessed with performance that he made it mandatory that his drivers move into a hotel or motel room and not sleep with their wife the night before a race in order to assure that they got sufficient rest and their minds were uncluttered on race day?

| Re: NASCAR Trivia - Big Brother Quote:
WARNING: HISTORY ALERT Carl was notorious for not only the way he treated drivers (He was the first NASCAR owner to make his drivers sign a contract), but for the way he handled NASCAR. More than once he hauled his cars to a track (While almost all other cars were either towed in or pulled in on trailers, Carl had two auto haulers (what we see new cars hauled on today and he routinely showed up at a major race with no less than eight cars - Chrysler 300's and Dodges - ready to race) and his rolling machine shop (another first) to the track and lease the track for private testing up until three hours before qualifying was scheduled. Bill France Sr made it so uncomfortable for Carl that in 1958 he left NASCAR and devoted his time to hydroplane racing and boat design. he is credited for designing what is termed today the cigarette boat. Before he left, in 1958 France made a rule that no team owner could field more than two cars per race at ANY NASCAR event. A rule that worked wonderfully until Bill Jr let The Felon and Roush get away with cheating. ( Cheating -my personal feelings) |
