Trivia No 1- NASCAR and Elvis

I'll be gone for a few days. Here is one of the two Trivia questions I'll leave you to ponder over.

In addition to interesting statistics, NASCAR has had some interesting personalities. This one has to do with those:

What NASCAR driver, who has driven in one of NASCAR's top three series within the past five years, always buys a ticket reserved for Elvis, at every race he drives in?

Nope, but this guy is even more "loopier" (but infinitely more likable) than the infamous Mikey.

Nope. This driver is a pretty obscure driver but he has competed in a number of NASCAR Series races since the mid-90's.

OK...I'll drop one hint; it looks like this one might last a day or so...

I'll give everyone a hint. He was once very highly connected to a professional sports franchise.

Re: Trivia No 1- NASCAR and Elvis

I know old Houston Oilers coach Jerry Glanville used to do that in the NFL, but he doesn't race NASCAR, does he?

<Sigh> I'm just going to have to find some tougher questions.

Jerry Glanville is just one of a multitude of genuine characters to be found in NASCAR history. (Unlike the vanilla-flavoured interchangeable, walking, talking ad posters we have today)

Congratulations again, Lefty. You're right. Well really close to being right. Coach Glanville actually was head coach for the Atlanta Falcons, and I read once hwere he turned the Astrodome into "The House of Pain." (His last gig, I believe, was line coach for the Univ of Hawaii) And he did run NASCAR

Though he's tried to qualify for several races, Coach Glanville has made only two BGN races and a handful of CTS races. He continues his personal tradition of reserving a seat for Elvis at each sporting event he's involved in.

Lots of stories about Glanville. Google "Glanville and NASCAR and Elvis" for a whole bunch.

Re: Trivia No 1- NASCAR and Elvis

Acutally, Glanville coached both teams, Bob. He coached the Houston Oilers from 1985–1989 (replaced by Jack Pardee) and the Atlanta Falcons from 1990–1993 (replaced by current University of Hawaii coach June Jones). And he used to always leave a pair of football tickets for Elvis while he was coaching, too. I was surprised to learn that he races though; that I didn't know.

Thanks. I learned something today. From the interviews I've seen, and the articles I've read, Jerry seems like the kind of guy who'd be fun to occasionally drink with but I'd steer clear of hanging out with him.

AS for his football history...I quit watching all stick&ball sports in 1985 when the players went on strike. The two times they did that in NASCAR there was a valid reason, but when the ball players did it, they just plain lost me forever.
