NASCAR Trivia: Shortest Track

Talladega is the longest non-road course NASCAR has run on (2.6 miles). What was the shortest track NASCAR's major series ever ran on?

Hint: Many of you older race fans have probably seen this track on TV multiple times.

Nope, even shorter than Old Dominion.

The hint was germane. Just remember back several years...

O.D. was .375, my records tell me. That was one track I never attended.

I was going to ask the longest course NASCAR ever raced on, but that would have been far too obvious and easy.

Re: Trivia

I dont remember whether or not South Boston Speedway was shorter in the 70s than it was before Nascar stopped going there. If it was, that would be my last guess.

Even shorter than S. Boston.

Believe me, when you get the answer you'll slap your forhead and say, "Damn! I remember that!"

Re: NASCAR Trivia: Shortest Track

Well it looks like Martinsville Speedway is the shortest NASCAR track on the current Nextel Cup schedule. .526 miles

But I'm stumped on the shortest ever. My googling abilities have failed me.

BINGO!!! Darn! As they say in the golf commercials, "These guys are good!"

Yep, Islip Speed, Islip, Long Island, NY.. Race Record: 49.925 MPH 7/15/71
Both Neil (Soapy) Castles and Wendell Scott started all six NASCAR races there.

IRT my hint about seeing it on TV, if any of you watched ABC's Wide World of Sports, during the 70's they had at least 2-3 segments from Islip because that was where they held the USA Figure-8 Championships.

Good one, Lefty...Now I have to dig up a hard one.
