Re: Special about Daytona

Well, I guess there were lots of "special" things about that race:
  • the first NASCAR race at Daytona Beach
  • the slowest speed for a race ever at the Beach and Road course (80.883 mph)
  • there were no cautions
  • 28 cars started but only 20 were running at the end (Louise Smith was driving the last car running)
  • those who didn't finish the race won $0 for their effort.
  • 6 Oldsmobile's started the race .. and all finished in the Top 8, including the first 4 positions.
Did I hit on the one you were looking for?

Nope... but good guesses.... I'll wait to see if LSC or Bob get it. Then I'll post a hint.

Re: Special about Daytona

I don't remember which race it was, but I do remember there was one race that had to be "modified" because of the incoming tide. Might this be the race?

Nope, That was the 1958 race. They delayed the start until 1500.

Duck came up with most of the unique things about the Dayton race. The only other things I can come up with is
-It was the only Daytona race run as the NASCAR Strictly Stock Series. In 1950 they changed the name of the series to Grand National.
- It wasn't run in February. It was run in July.
- It was the first NASCAR race which had one owner with multiple teams. Sara Christain owned the car she drove plus ('49 Olds) plus the '47 Ford Buckshot Morris drove.

I'm afraid you've got me on this one, Dustin.

Re: Special about Daytona

According to my info it's this.

the first event to feature a brother and a sister, and the only NASCAR event to feature four siblings.

Now can you guess who they are?

Have to dig up my data base...

The Flock Brothers, Bob, Tim and Fonty AND their sister Ethel Mobley.

It was also the first NASCAR race to have a husband and wife compete against one another; Sara and Frank Christain.
