Re: Anybody recognize this car?

Louise Smith was not remote enough, I guess .. I'll keep looking for more and more remote cars... In the meantime, that #61 car is still unidentified as well as it's owner/driver and the Butt Paste car owner is still unknown.

The driver was Richie Evans. He was killed in Martinsville I believe in the mid 80's ??? The car was a modified. Were you looking for a particular name like Cindy or something along those lines or just the type of car ???

you're right so far. Richie was killed
October 24, 1985 whilepracticing at Martinsville for the the Winn-Dixie 500 Tripleheader (three races in one day -- a 200-lap Modified race, a 200-lap Busch Series race, and a 100-lap Late Model race)

Richie was usually introduced as driving the "______ ______ ______ (3 words).

I was lucky enough to see Richie a couple times at the local track at Owego NY in '72. He was an instant favorite and finished in the top 5 both times. The car's nickname caught my attention and has stuck with me all these years...

Re: Anybody recognize this car?

Wow! It's great to see some old modified pics again. Richie Evans and the "rusty nail special", right! I grew up in NY watching Richie, Geoff Bodine and Maynard Troyer race every week. You know, Clay Earles, the original owner and promoter of Martinsville speedway has said the best race he ever saw was the modified race at his track when Evans and Bodine wrecked on the last turn of the last lap. There's a pic somewhere of Evans posing with the checkerd flag and his car with no front suspension on it. Great stuff.
And by the way, the owner of Evans's car in the pic is Gene DeWitt of B R Dewitt Inc.

I see BR DeWitt on the quarter panel, but the site where I found the pic said Richie was the owner. Either way is OK with me 'cause, like you, I watched Evans, Troyer and Bodine race during my short stay in central NY in '72-'73. And, Richie was my favorite driver, next to my brother...
