I'll just throw out Fireball Roberts as a SWAG.

Since this is one of my two favourites, I know this one:

Curtis Turner
7/2/50
Rochester, NY
#41 Eanes Olds

Owner John Eanes was a long-time friend of Curtis and was in the lumber business with him in addition to being Roanoke's Olds dealer.

Bob, when I saw this question, I just knew I had to test you with it (but I couldn't let on it was your favorite, could I?) Ya didn't let me down, either.

If you'd like a picture of the #41 Eanes Olds, I can scan mine and get it to you.

Here is a little trivia stuff for you which will mean nothing to most for for some of you who were car nutz in the 50's it might bring back some fond memories:

The 1949 and 1950 Olds and Chevie had identical bodies. The OLD difference was in the engine (Olds had a V8; Chev still had the old stovebolt), front grill and trim, and windshield. Chevie hada two piece windshield and Olds was single piece of glass.

Many of us customizers in the 50's replaced our Chevie windshields with the more modern single piece Olds. It was an EXACT fit (I know, I had one in my '49 Chev coupe.)

I appreciate the thought on the pic, but I'm afraid it would just get lost in my stacks of stuff. I'd rather have it online where I can "visit" from time to time

Didn't know that about the Chev & Olds windshields.

My dad bought a 49 olds 98 to haul his brood around (there were 6 of us + Mom) .. was my first introduction to drive in movies sitting in that car (the only movie I remember seeing from back then scared the **** out of me .. it was "The Thing") .. Mom made sandwiches and we had a jug of cold water to quench our thirst .. got the whole carload in for a dollar. When I started driving, it was the car I unconsciously tried to tear up as a teen .. I failed miserably .. it was just too well built...
