| Tragic Tracks In the history of motorsports, more than 3,000 drivers, mechanics, support staff and fans have died during races. In terms of competitors deaths, 2 of the top 5 tragic tracks host regular NASCAR events. Can you name the top 5? No? how about the 2 NASCAR tracks in the top 5?

| Re: Tragic Tracks ya got the NASCAR ones right, but in the wrong order. Indy is 1st with 56 deaths. Daytona is tied with another famous track at 4th with 24 deaths. I'm gonna let folks guess what the other 3 tracks are for a while. If ya nail one, I'll put it in the right order. |

I would have thought the Milwaukee Mile had more deaths than the Daytona track? They've been racing there since before the first Indy 500. I don't know the exact number of fatalities there but I'll put it as either third or fourth. Along with Milwaukee I'd have to add that circular disaster, Langhorne. Taking a SWAG, I'd have to put either Nurburing (sp) or Monza on the list, too, just for the sheer speed they ran there and the era when they ran. I remember the old dirt track at Phoenix ate up a few Champ car drivers, Jimmy Bryan, Art Cross and Jerry Hoyt, among them. I'm very interested in seeing the answer to this one.

| Re: Tragic Tracks Ducky, you've got me on this one. You use the present tense ("is") so I take it that the track is anh active famous track? Plus, it is is NOT either Milwaukee nor Langhorne (I'd have bet money that Milwaukee was one of the five)? The only other two "famous" racing venues which come to mind in the US are Bonneville and Pikes Peak, but they're not "tracks." DuQuoin is famous to me and older race fans but I doubt if many new fans have ever heard of it. Overseas I can't think of a course where they run fast enough to merit the carnage you reference. |
