Another reason there have been competitors who drove under an assumed name was because sometimes they had something to hide. This was the case with two time NASCAR champion Ned Jarrett who drove his first year under the name of John Lentz because he didn’t want his father to know he was involved in a sport he didn’t approve of. Another reason for drivers opting to use another name in racing was because some sanctions would prohibit their drivers from racing on any tracks that were not on their governing bodies roster.
