Who is the boss?

I have a question that I am hoping someone out there can help me with. Is Jeff Gordon Jimmy Johnsons actual boss, or is Rick Hendrick? Please advise as my step son says its Jeff and I say its Rick. Who is right?

guess you both win. Jeff is half owner of the #48, but for the sake of owner points, it's Jeff. Rick owns the other half.

interesting story about how that came about. seems Jeffy was watching a few Busch races and saw JJ. he knew Rick was always looking for talented drivers and so mentioned it to Rick. but Rick didn't do anything about it. later Jeffy asked Rick what he was going to do about JJ, Rick said "nothing", but if Jeffy thought he was worth the investment, to put his money where his mouth is. the rest is history.

Red face Re: Who is the boss?

Maybe I am not asking the question properly. I know that Jeff has either half ownership or full of the #48 car, but who does Jimmy Johnson report directly to? Rick or Jeff?

Re: Who is the boss?

officially, Jeff is the owner. Rick is always sharing in the celebrations in the winner's circle when JJ wins. don't think Jeff gives JJ directions during a race.

the idea of 2 bosses is not alien to drivers .. lots of teams have an official owner and the "head guy".

at HMS, Rick is the "head guy" .. who JJ actually reports to is speculation at best.

why does it matter? "they" are HMS.

Whenever Jimmy is interviewed and subject of ownership comes up he almost ALWAYS says, "Mr. Hendrick."

Every time Chad Knaus is caught cheating (Oops! Sorry for the Politically Incorrect faux pas) experimenting in the "Grey Area (and there have been several of those) , he usually mentions something about his car owner, "Mr. Hendrick," in the most reverent of tones.

In the OFFICIAL NASCAR 2007 Preview and Press Guide the owner of the #48 car is Rick Hendrick; no mention of Jeffy-Pooh anywhere in the write-up.

If you go to Racing-Reference.com (Racing-Reference.info - Racing Statistics and History) and look up Jeff Gordon under OWNERS you won't find him listed, only Cecil and Robby.

I have heard it said, but nowhere have I ever found confirmation so it's classified as RUMOR, that the response you got from Duck is slightly modified. Again, I REPEAT, I can find no evidence of this but it fits into the Hendrick way of doing things like a glove.

Ray Everham and Jeff Gordon were an unbeatable combination, probably one of the absolute best driver/crew chief combos in NASCAR history. When Ray made his deal with MOPAR and decided to leave his initial plan was to take Jeffy with him. In order to save Jeff, and probably the future of HMS, he promised to get Jeff his choice of crew chief, and at that time it was Gordon's opinion that Robbie Loomis was second only to Everham in abilities. He came to Hendrick the next season. Jeff and Rick both recognized Johnson's potential and Jeff wanted a slice of the Johnson pie. To make it "official and legal" Hendrick had Jeffy made a quasi-owner.

I don't know how this Jeff Gordon/owners points thing works (I imagine that it's some sort of concession made to Hendrick by NA$CAR, but I do know that it's a real challenge to find Jeffy-Pooh listed anywhere as an "owner.

Re: Who is the boss?

you doubt the duck? shame, shame on you.

first, I related the way JJ came to HMS exactly as Rick described the goings on in an interview I saw some months, maybe even years, ago. It was his story, so I'm stickin' to it!

now about Mr J. Gordon being listed the owner of the #48 car, and thus receiving owner points, all you have to do is look on the NASCAR website....

so easy, but I know their new site design is giving some folks fits, so I copied this from NASCAR.com (the link is NASCAR.COM )
After: USG Sheetrock 400 | Chicagoland Speedway | Race 19 of 36
RANK +/- CAR OWNER POINTS BEHIND STARTS WINS TOP 5 TOP 10
7 -3 #48 Jeff Gordon 2423 -488 19 4 9 11

Nay, nay, do I doubt thee, oh anatidaed one. I was merely reinforcing the fact that the Jeffy/Felon ownership of the #48 team is, at best convoluted.

I'm gonna have to go with the first of these, but....
  • In The Honeymooners TV show episode "The $99,000 Answer", Alice asks Ralph to spell the word. Ralph says he'll spell it if she gives him $16,000 for spelling it. She tells him she'll give him twice the amount if he can say it.
  • In the Blackadder the Third TV show episode "Dish and Dishonesty", the title character tells Prince George that he shall return 'before you can say antidisestablishmentarianism'. The Prince makes many attempts at saying it, eventually reduced to the level of saying anti-distinctly-minty-monetarism, by the time Blackadder has returned two days later.
  • In an episode of the animated TV show Aqua Teen Hunger Force, a Cybernetic Turkey from the future makes the statement that tacos do not exist in the future, stating, "I think we all know why. Anti taco legislation! Disestablishmentarianism!"
  • In an episode of the animated TV show A Pup Named Scooby-Doo, Shaggy and Scooby-Doo compete against two child geniuses in a Wheel of Fortune-like game show. The first word is 28 letters and the child geniuses correctly guess it is "antidisestablishmentarianism" without uncovering any letters.
  • In the TV show "Arthur", The Brain tries to spell "antidisestablishmentarianism" while studying for a school spelling bee.
  • During the commercial break for the show "Recess", Gretchen Grundler said “We will be back faster than you can say antidisestablishmentarianism.”
  • In the TV show "Breaker High", character Tamara claims "antidisestablishmentarianism" as the longest word she knows, in order to impress others at a socialites party.

All good answers, and only one of them I had heard before (Arthur).

However, to the best of my knowledge it was made famous when spelled by 11 year Cecily Pigeon on Revlon's $64,000 Question in 1955. I believe that would predate the Ralph and Alice episode, or so I believe. I dunno know though. Both shows began in 1955 but $64K Question began in the summer and The Honeymooners started in the fall.

I didn't remember the Honeymooners episode, but thought I remembered seeing it on $64,000 Question show. however when my ref (wikipedia) didn't mention it, I figured the grey cells had crossed wires again...
