but since Richmond is a correct answer to my first question, and I think you might have your stats jumbled, I'll give you another try at the other 2 questions:

2. The last Grand National winner at this dirt track was Tom Flock (5/15/55) in one of Jack Roush's (Ooops! My bad!) Karl Kiekhaeffer's Chrysler 300's. At least three weekly races were run before the track closed for paving and one of this winners was, I believe, Elmer Reedy from Vinton, VA. 3. First winner at Martinsville, as a paved track, was Speedy Thompson (10/16/55) in another of Kiekhaeffer's Chrysler 300's. next question..?

by my count, there were 18 tracks in all that changed from dirt to paved and held at least one cup race on dirt and one cup race on pavement. Martinsville may be the one that started a trend, I don't know for sure 'cause another track held a dirt race and a paved race in '55 - but it's dirt race was earlier in the year and it's paved race was later in the year than Martinsville. A) what is the name of the track that changed from dirt to paved the same year as Martinsville? and who won the last dirt and the first paved races at that track? Martinsville also holds the record for least time between dirt and paved cup races at 5 months and 1 day. B) which track holds the record for most time between the last dirt and the first paved cup races and how long was the interval? finally, if you able to answer question A (above) correctly, you are already on your way to the answer of the last and final question. back to back wins for a driver at a track are not uncommon. but back to back wins when the racing surface is completely different (dirt to pavement) on the same track is rare. five stars of NASCAR have done it, one of them twice. C) name the five NASCAR star drivers who have back to back wins on different surfaces at the same track and which driver accomplished this feat twice? (at least 6 different tracks are involved.) |

Raleigh: (2) Paved since 1952 Raleigh was NASCAR's first lighted superspeedway and the site of Fonty Flock having to pit during the race to get his monkey Floco-Jocko out of his car, Darlington: paved since it was constructed and Martinsville. North Wilksboro was paved in 1957, two years after Martinsville.Fireball won the spring race and Jack Smith won the fall race Quote:
This one took a little effort but I think(Not sure) that it's the old Savannah Speedway Last Dirt 8/25/67 (Richard Petty) First Paved 10/17/69 (Bobby Isaac) Quote:
Herb Thomas (Martinsville) I admit defeat. I am researched out, my friend. |

the rest happened between 1960 and 1970. (that ought to narrow it down some...) |
