| Too Much Racing? I was doing some research for another topic when I ran across this bit of trivia. As we all know, or should know, NASCAR counts races differently today than in the past. For instance they used to count the qualifying races for the Daytona 500 as separate races - now it's all part of the 500. But at one time NASCAR was known to race not only on the weekends, but also during the week at different tracks. As such there were many weeks with more than a couple races going on (we're talking Cup here.) So, how many races do you think NASCAR was able to squeeze into a week including the bookend weekends? That's 9 consecutive days beginning with Saturday and ending the following weekend on Sunday. Oh yeah, when did they do this - what month & year?

10/7 at Hillsboro, NC 10/12 at Thompson, CT 10/14 at Martinsville, VA 10/14 at Oakland, CA 10/14 at Shippenville, PA Three in one day. Thank God TNT wasn't covering the races then, three times the chance to screw up coverage!!!

the sequence I had in mind actually had each race on a separate day (no doubling up) -- it's the only one I found that included the weekends that "bookend" a M-F sequence. I did find some Wed to Fri-week sequences they didn't have as many races as my "answer". of course I'm doing all my research "by hand and pencil" so there might be others... |
