NASCAR Flags

Have you been paying attention?

OK, how many different flags are in the flagman's stand during a race and can you describe each, what it means and when it's used?

Re: NASCAR Flags

This would make for an interesting story line while waiting for a race to begin.

that's part of it .. according to NASCAR.COM: "Used only on road courses by corner workers, held or waved to signify debris or slippery conditions ahead."

in my original question the phrase "in the flagman's stand" was meant specifically to rule this one out of the answer.

Now, other than state/government flags, what are the other two?

What I really meant was for the TV network to run a story about flags. That would be better than listening to one of the village idiots blab on and on.

One you'll kick yourself over is the RED with a YELLOW "X" through it. Pit road closed and the last one is a road course flag only and I'll have to admit I've never seen it. The blue flag for a local caution. I believe they use the yellow flag even for a local caution ???

consider me self-kicked .. but, in defense, no one ever talks about the pit road closed flag, but instead the pit road closed light. however, I remember seeing a shot on TV at the 600 of the NASCAR official waving the pit road closed flag while standing next to the pit road closed light .. kinda redundant...

are you sure the blue road course flag is used in NASCAR? I'll accept it exists, but, like you, I don't remember ever seeing it (but then I wasn't looking for it specifically either...)
