| Re: Manufacturer Trivia Quote:
American cars which have competed at NASCAR's highest level but have never scored a win ("fewest wins = zero?") are Corvette, Cadillac, Kaiser, Packard, Willys and Henry J. Foreign entries include MG, VW, Aston Martin, Austin Healy, Morgan, and Porsche. There are probably four or five more makes, but I just don't remember them at the moment.

OK I realize this is a trivia forum but I need a small history lesson Bob. I'm curious about Corvette and VW in particular. When did they run, by who and are any photos available ?? I cannot imagine VW in Cup. |

However, I did find history of Corvette, plus some other oddities: Corvette: 6/26/60 Bill Whitley drove a 54 Vette to a 16th place finish in a 17 car field at Bowman Grey Stadium. He did it again as follows: 8/9/61 20th in a 23 car field 8/18/62 12th in a 24 car field and finally 8/16/83 19th in a 19 car field 6/5/60 Joe Weatherly (one of my favourite drivers) drove a 60 Valiant to a 15th place finish in a 19 car field at Richmond, VA 6/1/58 Hilan Micka drove a 58 Renault to a 31st place finish in a 46 car field at Riverside. In the same race Danny Earnes drove a 58 Goliath (English Ford?) to a 27 in a 46 car field 7/21/59 Scott Sandman drove a 58 Edsel to a 21st in a 22 car field at Pittsburgh 5/21/61 Clem proctor drove a 61 Corvair (Close to a VW?) to a 24th in a 27 car field at Riverside 8/9/61 Paul Lyons drove an Austin Healy Sprite to last place in a 23 car field What was kind of amazing was the 1963 Bowman Grey race with the Corvette, a 63 Aston Martin also ran that race. That car was the same model Aston martin used by James Bond in Dr. No. (You know, the one with the ejection seats and the machine guins in the bumpers...I assume the car driven in the race didn't have these; it finished way back in the filed.) |

| Re: Manufacturer Trivia I also tried to locate any info on the VW and could only come up with the fact that they were considering getting into NASCAR a few years ago when Toyoter announced they wanted in. At that time Honda said they were not interested. I would guess they might reconsider if Toyota has any kind of year in NASCAR.
