Yes you know me! You send me e-mails all the time. You know me from the other forum that use to start with a "T" and ends with a "Z". I've never posted on here before but I've been a member for some time now.
I was out at the cemetery last week for a friend that passed away and I stopped by to pay my respects to your brothers.
I know Don still has a car that Eddie drove but I was wondering if he still had Clarence's car? That was a long time ago so that would most likely be just a big wish.
When did Cory decide to play in the dirt?

as soon as you said emails, I knew who you are. I don't go to that other forum much .. seems to be mostly the same people complaining about the same thing as last time I was there .. but Cory's there a lot. Speaking of which, Cory's not playin in the dirt .. it's an asphalt mod. started out as a dirt chassis, but the previous owner had it converted. I don't think he has any desire at all to do dirt .. asphalt is dirty enough

re: Don's cars .. I haven't the foggiest. as many times as I've talked to Eddie (he did my Mom's and youngest brother's funerals) I never thought to ask. last I heard he was out of the funeral business - that was several years ago. Clarence drove 2 cars for Don: a Ford and that 72 Laguna. Would love to see either of them again .. but especially the Laguna .. Clarence was really proud of it .. and it was the last one he drove.

Thanks for stopping by to see my brothers. I'm gonna try to get down to SA for the Rodeo .. maybe we can get together for coffee or something .. email me and we'll see we can't work that out.

Re: clarence lovell 72-73

PAPA asked me to post this old pic

With some magnifying glass work and record book searching I figured out this picture was taken

May 6, 1973 at Alabama International Motor Speedway, Talladega, AL

The other cars/drivers in the picture are:
#77 - Charlie Roberts - 71 Ford
# 8 - Ed Negre - 73 Dodge
#52 - Earl Ross - 72 Chevy
#95 - Darrell Waltrip - 71 Mercury
#18 - Joe Frasson - 73 Dodge
#31 - Jim Vandiver - 72 Dodge

This was Clarence's last race .. he qualified 12th out of 60 starters and finished 4th.

I forgot to mention Clarence is driving the #61. I guess that was sort of implied...

Re: clarence lovell 72-73

Hey Papa
Welcome to GTG
I am not a racing fan, but I am a big fan of harassing Charlie.
So along with LSC, do you have any pics of Charlie?
Especially those he really doesnt want us to see???

On a serious side, it gave me a really sad feeling to know I was looking at a pic of your brother's last race. Cant imagine what it does to you.

I don't know what track it is, but Clarence's #61 is beside Richard Petty in this pic.

Re: clarence lovell 72-73

I've got some other pics of Clarence at the track. I'll try to get them scanned and posted in the next few days.

I've also got a bunch from his local track racing days .. might need to start a different thread to keep on topic. It'll take longer to get them scanned and up

do you know when the photo was taken? the reason I ask is the #61 used the same paint scheme for several years, so it might not be Clarence driving. I think that's the Ford, the only car they had in '72, but I think it was around for several years after Clarence died .. it became their "small track" car in 73. the only race he drove with it in '73 (it was called a '71 Mercury) was Darlington. The other tracks he drove in '73 (Rockingham, Atlanta and Talladega) they used the Chevy.

No real rush Ducky ... it'll just be nice to see someone who we can actually connect to in a special way.

Charlie
That picture was taken at Daytona in 73. It was the 2nd Twin 125. Clarence failed to qualify for the 500.

Re: clarence lovell 72-73

Bette
I have never had the honor of meeting Charlie so "NO" I don't have any pics of him. However...I do know where I might be able to get my hands on some. I'll see what I can do. I must advise you that you really shouldn't give Charlie a hard time.....He has a "Sickness". For many years now he has been secretly going to the shop and throwing large amounts of cash at the race car in there. Its not his fault. He has no control over it. There is no cure. So be easy on him ok?
