Driver Needing Water Wings?

here is a toughie. I'll give everyone until Sunday morning to dig up this answer:
Who was the first driver to wreck and have his car end up in Lake Lloyd?

I'll even give you a hint on this one... It was in 1960.

Good luck...

From the newspaper write up:
  • "A wild first lap collision sent sophomore driver Tommy Irwin's T-Bird nose first into Lake Lloyd. Gene White, Dave Hirshfield and Irwin locked horns coming off the second turn in the first lap. Irwin shot through the infield, catapulted over the dirt embankment and was nearly submerged in the lake. he swam to safety."

At one time I knew the answer, Dustin. I've tried to look it up but I've misplaced the info I had. So, I'm going to go with a shotgun-type guess. I'd guess either, Fonty Flock, Joe Weatherly or Jack Smith.
