| Re: Today In NASCAR History Aug 1, 1998 - Jeff Gordon became the first two-time winner of the Brickyard 400 in Indianapolis on August 1st 1998! Winning that race also put him in the record books for being the first driver to win the No-Bull Bonus and claiming the largest single 1st place pay out in NASCAR history! (At that time)

| Re: Today In NASCAR History August 5th - 1979: Teenager Kyle Petty makes his Cup debut in the Talladega 500 and finishes ninth. Darrell Waltrip gets the win and Kyle's dad, Richard Petty, finishes fourth. The Talladega 500 is one of five starts in 1979 for the 19-year-old. Kyle goes full time in 1981. August 6th 1994- Inaugural Indianapolis Brickyard 400, NASCAR gets to race at Indy! The first running of the Brickyard 400 in 1994 saw the largest crowd to-date to witness a NASCAR event, and the single-largest race purse to-date. Rick Mast won the pole position. Young second-year driver Jeff Gordon took the lead late in the race after Ernie Irvan suffered a flat tire. Gordon drove on to a historic win in NASCAR's debut at the Brickyard. |

| Re: Today In NASCAR History August 24, 1975, His Royal Fastness picked up the second of his four career Michigan wins. It was the ninth win of the season for Petty, en route to 13 total victories. It was more than three times any other driver, and the largest romp in NASCAR history — a 722-point victory over Cup runner-up Dave Marcis. History was made in August 1992 when Bristol Motor Speedway became the first NASCAR track to go to an all-concrete racing surface. That doesn't sound quite right, we had been running many 500 mile races before then. |

It reads like 74 was the first 500 mile race for a NASCAR event. |

| Re: Today In NASCAR History In 1973 Petty won the Daytona "500" ... a 500 mile race. Looks like some bad info. Interesting snippet about the '73 Daytona 500. Petty won the race. He lead only 17 laps but was the only one on the lead lap. Next car was 2 laps down. Pretty impressive to lap the field twice in just 17 laps on a 2.5 mile track. |

| Re: Today In NASCAR History The first 500 mile race in NASCAR was held Sept 4, 1950 at Darlington (400 laps on 1.250 mile track) and was won by Johnny Mantz in a '50 Plymouth starting in 43rd position (there were 75 cars starting the race.) Fireball Roberts finished 2nd, 9 laps down, in a '50 Oldsmobile followed by Red Byron, one lap behind Roberts, in a '50 Cadillac. Did ya notice that none of those brands are in racing today and only the Cadillac brand is still alive?
