Bill Lester, the first black driver to compete in NASCAR's top stock car series in 20 years, will give it another try this week at California Speedway

Lester, a regular in NASCAR's Craftsman Truck Series, has qualified for both Nextel Cup races he has entered this season and is looking to make it three in a row in qualifying on Friday on the 2-mile oval in Fontana, Calif.

The veteran racer, who attended the University of California at Berkeley, considers California Speedway a home track.

"When we sat down with (sponsor) Waste Management early in the season to select the three events that I would compete in, California Speedway was definitely at the top of my list," Lester said. "I have a lot of experience at this track behind the wheel of the NASCAR Craftsman truck."

His car was find, he spun out. I wasn't watching as close as I should of because this whole chase thing is making a nerves wreck of me.
