Indy Racing League driver Sam Hornish Jr. might enter in lower-level stock car and sports car races next summer if a proposal floated by team owner Roger Penske comes to fruition, The New York Times reported.

Penske, who owns teams in IRL and Nascar, told the newspaper the plan would allow Hornish to enter some Busch Series races and lower-level ARCA races next season, in addition to the full schedule of IRL races.

"Sam has talked about running some Busch or ARCA races, and we're looking at a potential program,'' Penske told the Times before the Nextel Cup Sharpie 500 on Saturday night. "We haven't put all the pieces together."

Another of Penske's drivers, Ryan Newman, raced in the ARCA, Busch and Nextel Cup circuits before moving to Nextel Cup full-time. But Penske told the Times it was too early to say if Hornish would compete in the Nextel Cup series by 2008.

I was fortunate enough to watch Hornish win at the KY Speedway this year. He's a great racer and (don't bash me) I love watching the Indy series too. I know. I know. Open wheel....arg. I just like to watch cars go fast though.
