Imagine... Villeneuve, Monotya and Ambrose all in NASCAR...

If this happens I may well have to get Austar connected so I can watch every Nextel Cup race. They 3 of my favourite drivers.

Welcome to the forum, J.P. I'm sure you won't find us a sophisticated .as the F1 and F1-Wantbe Series', and we're much more beer and Cheetos and not much for wine and brie. However, most of us are well versed in the art of racing quite a few of us are quite knowledgeable about the area open-wheeled. Speaking for myself, I go back to the days of Juan Fangio and Alberto Ascari. I quit watching Indy in the 60's when the rear-engined cars took over. I stuck with Grand Prix until Graham Hill and Jackie Stewart quit, then so did I.

Jacques, Juan and Marcus; an interesting thought but I fear you won't see it happen, IMNSVHO. Here is one dumb old stock car fan's take on the subject:

I personally believe Villeneuve's "interest" is totally media generated, hyped in part by his decline in the F1 circuit. I see no history nor any benefit for him to come to NASCAR. It's just not his bag.

Juan Pablo is much the same, except he'll give it a try. He'll do it because of his past association with Chip, however I predict that by 9/1/06 of next year he'll be gone. The difference in cars and attendant technology, the difference in world prestige, the cut in pay, and the 36+ races he'll run will wear thin quickly. I think that J.P.'ll have problems adapting. He'll run the Brickyard then shortly thereafter fold his tent and return to shifting between his mansions in Miami and France.

Marcus is another story completely. He IS a stock car driver. He's driven the Australian V8 SuperCar Series for awhile and has done well. I look for someone to pick him up for a Cup ride after next season, despite his advanced age.

But, these are just my personal feelings and I have been wrong many, many times...?

That's cool mate. I'm an F1 fan through and through primarily as well as most other motorsports but I ain't all that sophisticated myself so I'll fit right in.

Interesting thoughts you have there and you may well be right, especially about JV.

Mate? Now would you be from bein' from Down Under? If so, would you remember Ralf(?)Harris and do you play the didgery do? (VBG)

Enough of that stuff. As an F1 fan I'd like to know your impression of who, past or present, would have made it in NASCAR. I've seen a few try but I can think of only two who were successful. Mario Andretti and Dan Gurney, and I can't count them because they were American to begin with.

The only one I can think of who I believe would have been successful in American major league stock car racing be cause he had the temperament for it was Ayrton Senna. The set-to's he and Alain Prost had in the mid 80's ALMOST made F1 fan of me again. Nikki Lauda had the cajoņes for it, as evidenced by his comeback after his firey crash, but I think Ayrton would have been better.

Your thoughts?

It's difficult to say. I'd imagine a driver who has proved quick in whatever they have driven would have a good chance of also being quick in NASCAR.

Senna would be right up there I'm sure, along with long-time rival Prost. Mansell in his day probably would have handled himself well in a tin-top too.
