| Re: Crazed Fan That looked like Altamont Speedway in Northern California. The Philpotts have been around forever, racing at All American Speedway, Stockton, Madera, etc. What a wacko to hop in a race car while a trophy is being presented. It takes all kinds to make this world go around I guess.

| Re: Crazed Fan Apparently it was staged, just not everyone knew about it!! Winning car 'stolen' from Victory Lane: A man jumped into a NASCAR race car and tried to drive away before he was stopped by track officials, who didn't know he was an actor and the apparent heist was a prank for a commercial. Justin Philpott, a 16-year-old NASCAR competitor, was taking part in an awards ceremony at the Altamont Motorsports Park on Sunday when the actor jumped a fence and hopped into his Chevrolet, the Tracy Press reported Thursday. "I heard my race car start up and slide away, so I turned around and started yelling and running after it," said Philpott, a third-generation racer. "No one knew what was going on." The stunt was cut short when track officials blocked the car's path with tow trucks, the newspaper reported. Philpott's older brother, also a racer, chased down the car, pulled out the unidentified man and tackled him to the ground. The incident was caught on tape and widely circulated on the Internet. The "thief" turned out to be an actor filming a scene for a commercial for one of Philpott's sponsors, TaxBrain.com. The Philpotts had not been told about the commercial beforehand, Justin Philpott said. A spokeswoman for Altamont's parent company, Riverside Motorsports Park, said only a few track officials knew the prank would take place. A spokesman for TaxBrain.com did not return calls for comment.(ESPN.com/AP see the video link there)(8-17-2006) |

| Re: Crazed Fan I'm a new fan and I don't know much about these cars, but from what I hear, you have to know how to fire up the thing and plug in the steering wheel etc...the announcer says something about leaving the keys in the car -- there really isn't a key right? |

| Re: Crazed Fan This is awesome! No, not for the reasons that you might think. This is a great example of how forum spammers work. To read the real story about what's going on, click here to read: Taxbrain Spammer Exposed.

No, 1av8tr, there are not keys in the racecar. But you are correct, that the guy would have to know how to fire it up. |

| Re: Crazed Fan Yes, our spammer is 1av8r whose only purpose in joining our community is to get more exposure for his company by starting this thread. The Tax NoBrain race car theft was an elaborate PR stunt and is detailed in the 2 news stories I linked to in the other thread: Taxbrain Spammer Exposed Their intent was to just get (any) publicity. And they succeeded. The story aired on ESPN, CNN & many other TV stations around the country. What I'm most pissed off about is that they feel the need to come here and spam our forum in direct violation of our Forum Rules . The guy that started this thread is the Affiliate Manager for taxbrain and posted here under false pretenses to try to get around our "no free promotion/advertising" policy. I'd never use a tax program from a company that uses such dodgy tactics. And, as someone who has participated in several affiliate programs, I'd never join the affiliate program run by a guy who spams forums.

| Re: Crazed Fan Sheesh..tough crowd! I figured that you all would want to see the vid and I didn't realize that you needed me to tell you who I am and where I work? Is that normal practice? I'm not sure if it really matters, but TaxBrain.com does sponsor Philpott Racing and I run Business Development (at least, the last time I checked I did). Somehow the naysayers and disbelievers think that it was some big orchestrated plot to gain national exposure. I'll tell ya, the media just grabbed the thing and ran with it -- it simply grew legs and turned into a monster. For anyone who's wondering, Justin is absolutely having a blast, our relationship with the Philpotts is better than ever, no one was seriously injured and a little bird told us that NASCAR in Daytona gave us their blessings. From NASCAR fans, I'm hearing that it was actually pretty funny and good to see a video posted that didn't show racecars crashing and going up in flames for once. I'm not quite sure that the whistleblower above really knows what it took, but the secret sauce was: 1 part idea, 4 parts communication, 5 parts execution, 1 part hot box office movie, millions of racing fans and YouTube. (Were not quite sure what the recipe was, 'cause no one really wrote it down, but it goes something like this - marinate overnight, turn twice and serve with a baked potato with all the fixin's -- seriously, when the sucker took off, I was trying to get a steak off the barby and it came out a little overcooked) My apologies for the strange entrance, but I hope you understand.
