Re: NASCAR and racial discrimination

I swore I was going to leave this one alone but... AGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

WARNING: This will probably offend some, if not most of you. Read on at your own risk

To start with this euphemism is just another example of political correct bull crap. Teddy Roosevelt said that when a person hyphenates a nationality you detract from both. Teddy got it right.

Scott was harassed by at least two white motorcoach drivers from different racing teams, including being called "n-word" and an incident where he was confronted by the pair with one wearing a white pillow case over his head imitating a Ku Klux Klansman, according to the complaint. When the incident was reported in the media, the complaint said, top NASCAR executives flew Scott back home to North Carolina promising him a future job, but while negotiations continued over the next five years, a job never materialized. Scott seeks back pay and compensatory damages for loss of employment benefits and mental suffering. NASCAR was not immediately available for comment?!?
I see a bunch of problems here.

(a) TWO GUYS harassed him. Looks like typical cowardly behaviour. People who exhibit crass behaviour like this don't deserve to be parties in a lawsuit; they deserve to have someone with some cajoņes knock the snot out of them. Simple case of action = reaction.

(b) I'll get real sympathetic about the use of "the n-word", a.k.a. ****** (I don't do political correctness worth a damn. Sorry), when blacks stop referring to each other in that unacceptable term. Until that time comes, that particular argument just plain bores me.

(c) So, you allegedly get a job offer but the job falls through? I guess a good case might be made for a breach of promise lawsuit, but... This smacks of telling a private employer who they can and cannot hire. Maybe we've become far too much of a litigant society? Whatever happen to taking our lumps and getting on with our lives? Is it fair? Probably not, but please tell me where it is written in stone that life was ever meant to be fair?

(d)"Scott seeks back pay and compensatory damages for loss of employment benefits and mental suffering" Back pay for work he never performed? Or was he not paid for the time he actually drove a motor coach? If it was the latter, he deserves the pay, if it was the former, he's due nothing. "Compensatory damages" Scott, old buddy, you may think you've been had worse than a sheep at an Alabama barn dance but what it looks like is that you made some decisions that didn't pan out the way you envisioned them doing and now you're hiding behind the "victim" label. Get over it! A couple points of your argument have merit but basically it looks to me as though life just happened to you. You deal with it, not some court.

And this stuff about loss of employment benefits and mental anguish...??? Spend 20+ years in the military, THEN talk to me about loss of benefits and mental anguish!

Until then, just get a life!

Consider it yours. I stole it from a Stephen Cantnell book.

Re: NASCAR and racial discrimination

Don't take this the wrong way but in it was the Southern Classic-I believe I don't think their was any African-American-but I don't know. To me please don't take offense. People just aren't used to seeing African-American people in Nascar or other nationalities like Japanese for example is what I'm trying to say. They are trying to be more diverse but I don't think any changes will be made anytime soon.

Don't have to worry about discrimination in WV, according to news reports this morning, the minorities don't want to move here either.

Say grandma, I've only been to WV to the horse races in Charlestown, near Harpers Ferry. Do you live near there?

About 40 miles south of Morgantown, between Grafton and Philippi.
Use to be a very wealthy area untill the B&O left. Nothing much left here, most employment went south close to Virginia line or north west and some by Charleston. It's beautiful here, but little to keep our youth. The country I live has no employment except for a couple industries, health care and teachers. And WalMart.
If you want to get back to nature, hunt, fish, go boating on The Tygart Lake. Bring your Money and come.

The state stocks so if you have a boat, plenty fresh water fish. Yes we have catfish (yuk) Give me Bass, waleye, trout. You can fish from the shore but it's better on the lake.
Check us out and don't forget I want to know about your area too.

I checked it out on the map and see that's a pretty big lake. Thanks for the invite but I'm sort of an agoraphobic so traveling is pretty much out of the picture, so I can only see racing on TV

I'm sorry to hear that, we have a lot of people from your area visit. We are not over commericalized, so its really nice. When we come to the east coast I like, the island where the ponys are, no way can I spell it. We haven't been for 20 years, good Lord, hard to believe its been that long. but it was so nice there. And We liked it because it was a nice quite place except durning the pony run.
