The 48 has a tire problem in the first 50 laps of the race, goes a lap down, and then miraculously comes back and is fighting for 3rd position on the last lap when he and the 24 collide and they both wreck out in turn 4. Eddie Haskel spins on oil from the 24's demolished oilpan and joins them at the bottom of the results.
The 9 is very grateful that they all wrecked out and brings home 3rd position.

My prediction for the Southern 500 is that the stands in California will be about 75%-80% filled, the racing will be mediocre at best and the race should be returned to its rightful site, in Darlington.

let me guys, he cheated, even though its tough to cheat when you only have two gears. You must have seen jeff on the restarts, the man amazing how he can drop so far and battle back
