| Re: Elko Speedway REUVERS, MARTIN SPLIT TWIN 40-LAP FEATURES ON MATT KENSETH NIGHT! (ELKO, Minn. July 29, 2006) -- Donny Reuvers and Jeff Martin were the top of the class as they each won one of the two 40-lap Treasure Island Resort & Casino Super Late Model features Saturday at Elko Speedway. Donny Reuvers took advantage of his front row starting spot to take the lead on lap eight, after battling with Jon Lemke for the first seven circuits. Once Reuvers took the top spot, he built a sizable lead as his challengers jockeyed for position. Meanwhile, Matt Kenseth flirted with the top 10, as Jake Ryan moved by Lemke on lap 15 and begun to reel in Reuvers with the assistance of lapped traffic. As Reuvers approached lapped cars, Ryan was able to close in on Reuvers’ bumper as both worked through the slower cars. However, Ryan was not able to challenge Reuvers, as he followed him across the line with Dean Cornelius in tow. Matt Kenseth, who was racing his personal car, finished 11th. In the second 40-lap main event, Jeff Martin showed he still had the good stuff as he worked by Darrin Giles and Gary Petrash early and took the lead. Also showing his muscle in the top was the NEXTEL Cup regular, Kenseth, who started sixth. Kenseth quickly worked to third by the sixth circuit and into second four laps later. However, as the race progressed and Martin built a safe lead, Kenseth faded a bit as Giles worked back by him and Adam Royle moved his way towards the front. Martin won the race with a comfortable lead, with Giles settling for second and Royle rounding out the top three. Kenseth finished fourth. Mike Skaja showed how to get things done in the CARQUEST Sportsmen as he held off two-time defending champion Steve Schultz. Skaja worked to the lead by the second lap from his outside front row starting spot and pulled way from the pack with Terry Moore a car length behind. However, their lead was negated on lap nine with a caution. One more caution on lap 19 slowed the race, but Skaja held on following the delay to beat Schultz to the line. Kevin Lutz finished third. Joey Garofalo avoided a second lap melee en route to his third Coca-Cola Thunder Car feature win of the year. A second lap tangle between Ted Reuvers, Jimmy Weeks and Brent Kane sent the pack scrambling to avoid. Fortunately for Garofalo, he was able to avoid the wreck. When racing resumed, he was able to pick off car after car, moving to third on lap eight, second three laps later and into the lead on the 16th circuit. A caution three laps later brought the field together, and gave early leader Tony Holm another shot at Garofalo. However, Garofalo was more than capable of holding off Holm, as they finished first and second, respectively. Matt Carlander rounded out the top three. Chris Marek helped pad his points lead by winning the Dick's Sanitation Power Stocks main event. Starting outside pole, Marek and dancing partner Chad Tuma battled for the first five laps before Marek took over and solidified the lead. As Marek pulled away by three car lengths, Tuma set himself in second as Matt Wiebusch moved into third. That's how they finished. |
