I'm sure the kemo and radiation treatment if they are doing it yet are causeing a sore throats. radiation will cause a burn in the tissue beiing treated.

He probably wanted to do the show just as a way to prove to himself that he wasn't going to let the cancer beat him.

You may well be right but I just think he would serve himself better to keep strong and rested.

Re: Benny Parsons battling lung cancer

Yea, he should have waited till he felt better. My brother died of lung cancer when he was 19 years old. He should have taken the rest of the race season off or until he was done with his treatments. He could be one of those workalcholics-can't keep a good man down!

I think we should just keep Benny in our prayer. Let him do whatever he can manage and brings him pleasure. The odds are not great no matter what he dose.

Even though I totally disagree I must admit that if I were in his shoes and someone said lets go ballooning ..... I'd be there in a heart beat since I enjoy and love it. Maybe because I want him to get well "I" feel he would be better off resting. It's not about me.

Naturally .... that's just my opinion.

Re: Benny Parsons battling lung cancer

When my brother found out he had lung cancer at 17 and died at 19 he didn't let anything slow him down. He did what his body would let him. So I don't see why Benny should slow down unless he wants too. We shouldn't really have a discussion on this because since this subject hits so close to home for me personally. I just think of what my brother did. Sorry if I offended anyone. Its Bennys business not ours. Let him live his life the way he wants too!

Re: Benny Parsons battling lung cancer

Benny was not well enough today to be in the broadcast booth.

A unity of prayer is needed.

LORD WE ASK THY WILL BE DONE ON EARTH AS IN HEAVEN. AMEN

The Lord does not wish us any sickness or unhappiness. This line in Our Fathers prayer is a petition for heaven on earth. I don't believe any stronger words can be prayed.

On his "Fast Talk" radio show Monday he assured us he'd be in the booth today, but said he'd try and stay off-camera because he had lost most of the remainder of his hair. Wally and Weber held it together pretty well, considering. I appreciated their effort.

This week must have been a pretty rough one for B.P. I wonder if he'll do his radio show tomorrow?

Get well soon, B.P.

Re: Benny Parsons battling lung cancer

Just found this on espn.com

Cup champ Parsons remains in intensive care
Associated Press

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Former NASCAR champion Benny Parsons remained in intensive care Friday at Carolinas Medical Center after entering the hospital nearly two weeks ago because of complications stemming from lung cancer.
The 1973 Winston Cup champion was diagnosed with cancer in his left lung in July and declared in October that he had beaten it. But he was unable to attend a ceremony in November in New York to accept the Myers Brothers Award for contributions to the sport.
"Parsons' family has been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from fans and the NASCAR community and they encourage everyone to keep Benny in their thoughts and prayers," said a statement issued on behalf of Parsons by Performance Racing Network.
Parsons, a NASCAR television commentator, has a weekly show on the radio network.
Parsons was selected one of NASCAR's 50 greatest drivers in 1998, 10 years after his retirement. He won 21 races in 526 starts, including the 1975 Daytona 500.
He finished no lower than fifth in the points from 1972-80 while earning more than $4 million. He also won ARCA titles in 1968-69.
He was inducted into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in 1994, and the National Motorsports Press Association's Stock Car Racing Hall of Fame in 1995.

Wow, one day you hear a promissing report about Benny, I heard about the damaged lung and the blood clots. I hope that its ends there and he is out soon.

Re: Benny Parsons battling lung cancer

I absolutely hate cancer. My sister's little girl has it - she is four now and was diagnosed when she was 2. It is completely heartbreaking.

The good thing is that there are always new treatments, ground-breaking research, and potent medications that are coming into the spotlight. I hope that Benny is able to recover from this but rest as much as necessary.

I hear he does one day better and then he goes down hill again. When you get treatments for cancer your red blood cells don't have all the oxygen they usually have and its hard for the white blood cells to fight infections. Sorry used to draw blood for a living.
