Also, make your race predictions in the official race prediction thread. We have a weekly contest to see who can pick the winners.

I think Jeff Burton is finally gonna pull out a win for the Brickyard 400. He has been right there every week, it seems. Luck will go his way this time.

The RCR boys should be pretty stout. You know Hamlin and Stewart will. I would also look for Kahne to be in the mix at some point.

I don't know about anyone else, but I can't wait to see what drama comes from Indy. It's meltdown time for someone.

Yeah, we need a good photo finish, or someone crossing the finish line on their roof. Something like that.

Maybe the two cars out front for some reason start spinning before they cross the finish line. It'll be on the last lap, so no extra laps

I don't think Elliott can get close enough to the front to do that. Go#38

Thoughts about The Brickyard 400:

It started out as The Brickyard 400 and will remain The Brickyard 400. IMS and Allstate can go pack sand. (Ditto for IRP and O'Rielly...Grrrrrrrr)

I was born and raised within 40 miles of IMS and I dearly love the place. Anyone who has a chance to see the place, even when there is no race, should jump at the opportunity. DO NOT MISS THE MUSEUM!!! I was gratified to hear at least two announcers this week say that The Brickyard 400 is undeniably the second biggest race on the Cup circuit. A fact that almost everyone misses is that in 1909 Carl Fisher built the track to test and race cars similar to what people actually drove. In 1994 the track regained its original intent.

I miss the old wooden stands between T1 and T2 (that was where we always sat for the Indy 500), the old Gasoline Alley and the pagoda at the starting line (both burned in a fire in...? 1954?). Although it increased the speed of the Weed Whackers-On-Steroids, I still rue the day the paved the last 800 feet of bricks on the straight and reduced it to only 3 feet.

That being said, The Brickyard is probably the worst track on the current circuit to watch a race. While some seats are better than others, most offer only a limited view of the track. IMS has positioned jumbo-trons around the place. I'm told 13 now; when I went to the 1st BY400 there were four. My feeling on jumbo-trons is that if I wanted to watch a race on a TV screen I'd stay home where it's air conditioned and the beer is much cheaper.

For all its faults, IMS is a great place and the neatest sound in the world is to be sitting in the main grandstands when 43 stock cars come down the track into T1 with their engines echoing off the main stands and the stand behind the pits. Goose pimple time!
