| Re: Allstate 400 at the Brickyard Race Discussion Yeah, the finish was pretty anticlimatic except for the crash and except for JJ fans. Johnson finished really strong so props to the Lowes team. KK looked like a pretty hard hit so good to see him walk out quickly. With 4 wins this year, it would be a real shame if he missed the chase. Good move by Jr & the others that stayed out. Is that gonna be the 1 thing that puts him in the chase? Did all the drivers that stayed out finish pretty well?

Two other things I noticed NBC gave short shrift to was (a) J.J. Yeley was running between 9th and 12th the best part of the final third of the race. The, they pit and <poof> he's back in 35th, and falling? Que Pasa? (b) Tony Raines got caught up in the last lap fiasco. The last I heard of him he was sitting DIW somewhere on the track. When I read the unofficial finish he's in 11th? How does that work? Coverage as we're getting today ALMOST makes me yearn for Ken Squire to be in the booth! (The operant word in that last was "operant") Now that we have that out of the way, Nevada, I read awhile back you race in the Bay area. Did you ever run that track in Calastoga? How about the little dirt track in Vallejo? Did you ever make it to the CRA races at capital Speedway in "Sac-town?"

NEWS FLASH!!!! As I was responding to Bob, I saw Bob Dilner saying Kasey said he backed out to avoid hitting Stewart and just plain lost it. So much for badmouthing Edwards. |

I'm afraid I date myself. I spent some time out on Mare Island in 79-80 and spent a lot of time at various tracks. Yeah, the Calistoga track was scary fast and treacherous. We saw a sprinter go over the fence in T3 one night. They tore up the track in Vallejo (it was out toward the lake, as I remember). It was pretty "basic" and a shopping mall probably was an improvement. That track in Antioch was a pretty good track, as I remember. I know they tore down Capital around...85? It was a 5/8 dirt and the last time I was there Ernie Irvan was tearing everyone up in the late model division. We saw the mods and sprint cars run at Stockton and Roseville and Altamont. The best track of them all, for my money was Altamont but an afternoon race there could be really brutal. |
