Re: Allstate 400 at the Brickyard Race Discussion

Yeah, the finish was pretty anticlimatic except for the crash and except for JJ fans. Johnson finished really strong so props to the Lowes team.

KK looked like a pretty hard hit so good to see him walk out quickly. With 4 wins this year, it would be a real shame if he missed the chase.

Good move by Jr & the others that stayed out. Is that gonna be the 1 thing that puts him in the chase?

Did all the drivers that stayed out finish pretty well?

I just despise the network TV coverage. A guy who has been solidly in the points all season long (Kahne) gets slammed into the wall on the last, and there is barely a mention of it. Now he is outside looking in. If Jeff Gordon or Tony Stewart would have been the victim, there would have been 5 minutes of discussing it, wondering who's fault it was, etc. But nooooooo, its only the 9 car, so let's just move on. The networks just feed us their favorites, and in HUGE doses.

BTW, I was recording the race and replayed the Kahne crash over and over, and it looked to me like the 99 just flat dumped him while he was around 10th. But that's ok in Nascar these days. Whatever it takes..........just do it. I dont know how much longer I can stand seeing crap like this on TV, all it does is get my blood boiling. I fear my 25 years of being a loyal fan are in severe jeopardy these days. I just dont care anymore.

I need a beer.

I didn't know how many he lost, but he's a big boy and if he's going to play he's going to have to learn how to get them first. Maybe this will toughten my guy up. He'll never make a champion until he can hold his own. The SNUFFER IS BACK

As far as I could tell it was Tony, If it was Edwards the Snuffer is really going looking. Edwards dumped him last year at the finish line.

I replayed it too and the 99 was probably trying to repay Tony by the looks of it and Carl has the nerve to call Tony a moron for his move two weeks ago! Now who's the moron Carl?????????

Tony was on top of Kasey if he would have caused it he would have swerved down and wrecked the 9 into 99 like last week. You can say you hate Tony but don't blame him for Carls screwup!

Ah, but "Flipper" is one of NASCAR's/TV's darlings. I have a feeling that Carl's "Aw shucks!" persona belies a deep, dark A.J. Foyt trying desperately to get out.

Two other things I noticed NBC gave short shrift to was
(a) J.J. Yeley was running between 9th and 12th the best part of the final third of the race. The, they pit and <poof> he's back in 35th, and falling? Que Pasa?

(b) Tony Raines got caught up in the last lap fiasco. The last I heard of him he was sitting DIW somewhere on the track. When I read the unofficial finish he's in 11th? How does that work?

Coverage as we're getting today ALMOST makes me yearn for Ken Squire to be in the booth! (The operant word in that last was "operant")

Now that we have that out of the way, Nevada, I read awhile back you race in the Bay area. Did you ever run that track in Calastoga? How about the little dirt track in Vallejo? Did you ever make it to the CRA races at capital Speedway in "Sac-town?"

Bob, we raced pavement. But, I went to Calistoga to an Outlaws race years ago. What a fast track!! I didnt know about a dirt track in Vallejo, but been to Antioc a few times. The pavement tracks we raced were Maderra, Stockton99, Ukiah, Lakeport, Rosevile and Anderson.

NEWS FLASH!!!! As I was responding to Bob, I saw Bob Dilner saying Kasey said he backed out to avoid hitting Stewart and just plain lost it.
So much for badmouthing Edwards.

I'm afraid I date myself. I spent some time out on Mare Island in 79-80 and spent a lot of time at various tracks.

Yeah, the Calistoga track was scary fast and treacherous. We saw a sprinter go over the fence in T3 one night.
They tore up the track in Vallejo (it was out toward the lake, as I remember). It was pretty "basic" and a shopping mall probably was an improvement. That track in Antioch was a pretty good track, as I remember.
I know they tore down Capital around...85? It was a 5/8 dirt and the last time I was there Ernie Irvan was tearing everyone up in the late model division.

We saw the mods and sprint cars run at Stockton and Roseville and Altamont. The best track of them all, for my money was Altamont but an afternoon race there could be really brutal.

Dave Despain and Wind Tunnel (the ONLY racing news show on TV worth watching, IMNSVHO) should be good tonight.

I'm happy for you, he really ran a terrific race. And to be there to see it would be the greatest thrill for any fan.
