How would it go if I got in the car and drove?? Probably better since I feel I have better control of my anger. My road rage consists of sitting on my horn and showing the other driver what I think their IQ is. Please don't hate me Smokey. I just don't care for Tony's attitude. Other than that he is probably a nice guy.

Here is my take on the current state of Tony: I'm finding the commonality between Stewart and Earnhardt, the Senior, seems to be growing day by day. I believe the Tony's PR people finally figured out the being a villain ain't all bad, and today's crop of vanilla racers need a viable villain. Jeffie-Pooh could be consistently good but he made a horrible villain. The Brother's Busch aren't consistent enough to be good villains and their youthful looks go against them Tony on the other hand is consistently good and will make NASCAR the person it sorely needs, a good villain, ala WWF. Earnhardt managed to do this and pull it off well, but it was the NASCAR side of him. Like Tony, Dale didn't care for the PR, media side of the sport. All he wanted to do was race. Dale, the Elder also didn't race to get points, he raced to win. He wasn't adverse at all to pushing someone out of the way if he wanted a position.(witness the video link I posted, IRT he and Rusty at Talladega) Tony was so concerned about the image of "points racing," that when he won his first championship, he and Zippy got into a number of publicized arguments on "big picture race strategy." Like Tony, Earnhardt was prone to say exactly what was on his mind whenever a microphone was shoved in his face. (One of Dale's most priceless quotes was after he won one of the Twin 125's in 1999. "Bill France Senior would roll over in his grave if he could see what Bill Junior has turned NASCAR into!") Both Tony and Dale have been know to be quietly generous. It's been reported that Tony has given at least a couple million dollars to Kyle's Victory Junction Gang, but I can find no evidence of any "Photo Ops" or other PR photos have been published. Kyle has also said that several drivers, including Stewart have been involved in the actual construction of the Camp. Dale gave a whole lot of money to the Kannopolis school system and library. He also made several unpublicized personal appearances at the schools and pushed kids to complete school. You have to dig hard to find reports of this being done. Both Dale and Tony disdain the spotlight and are very private people. This is a tough thing to pull off now because the media train is a lot longer than it was ten years ago. Dale and Teresa were never socialites and stayed to themselves. Tony left the Lake Norman crowd a couple years ago and quietly bought a farm just SE of Columbus, IN and retires back there between races. I'm sure that the fact that this site is only a couple hours away from his other love, Eldora Speedway, figures into the equation, too. I believe Tony and NASCAR have determined that NASCAR currently needs someone who is consistently capable of winning but who can bring people to the sport just to see if he can be beat. Someone who fans can not be ambivalent about; they either love him or hate him. Someone who can be polarizing. Tony certainly, at the moment, fills that bill. Feel manipulated? <g>

*Right click on your Norton icon down on your taskbar... *Click on DISABLE INTERNET SECURITY... *A box will pop up, pick an amount of time (I usually turn it off for 4 hours)so it will come back on automatically. This will allow your computer to communicate with other websites...like Smiley Central & do the download. It should also speed things up a bit for you. Hope this helps |
