Is Tony Stewart self-destructing?

For a guy that is on the outside looking in to the Chase, Tony Stewart has sure been doing some very dumb things. He is going to continue to drop like a rock in points if he keeps letting his emotions drive his car. Last week he was leading and was the fastest car on the track given equal tires, and refused to give Newman room. He just now got po'd at Boyer and drove into him, causing a wreck, and got himself black flagged.

I like Tony, but man it's like he's trying his darndest to keep himself out of the Chase. Zippy has to be incredibly frustrated giving him a top 5 car every week, only to see Tony have brain-farts.

(edit by rmjvol: merged 2 threads about Tony Stewart's penalty)

Tony has just been penalized 1 lap for rough driving. The video seems to confirm it. Was the panalty to much or not enough or maybe just enough ???

In Daytona he got end of the lead lap for the same thing....he does it again, so he desrves the harsher penalty. Plus, innocent car #99 involved makes it worse.....just my opionion.

Not enough, says I. That was an jerk thing to do. T Stew's gotta learn to control his temper. You don't just take a guy out for getting close. Carl Edwards got the short end of the stick.

It was very fair for many reasons. It is not Tony's Nascar, He took out as innocent driver (whats new?), there is no telling if Bowyer ran him up intentionally and even if he did, as Wally said, the "gesture" should have been enough but of course with Tony it never can be and finally, Im sure Nascar is getting quite sick of Tony's antics, as am I and many others. Sorry for that LSC, but Tony just bothers me. Im proud of Nascar for this stricter rule enforcement (semi-stricter ). And I was watch now, Edwards spins Tony in the pits.

Re: Is Tony self-destructing?

Can you imagine what Tony Stewart could do if he could *really* control his anger? It didn't take him long to get back that lap and his car does seem strong enough to get to the front.

There is no doubt he would have the points lead right now.

I wonder if he can get his money back for all those anger management classes he took a few years ago.

Obviously you haven't read many of my posts concerning Tony. I don't hate him but I am absolutely no fan of his as far as his ability to keep his attitude under control. He is one of the better drivers out there when he behaves himself buthe just doesn't do it well enough for me. I lost respect for him a few years ago and then he seemed to want to do better. Then there was the '06 Daytona event. It has gone downhill from there. It is always someone elses fault and never his. The interviews this week will once again be a joke.

My feeling is that the penalties are not severe enough. A one lap penalty is just a small setback for a good driver. Hold them for 10-15 laps. At least they couldn't recover from that. I like the 99 but his stupidity deserves punishment also ... but if Smoke hadn't acted like a punk kid neither one of them would have been dealing with the issue of anger.

NA$CAR sent one team home for having the front of the car an inch lower than standards but you can go out and cause accidents on the track and in the pits where people could be killed and the penalty is one lap down. NA$CAR justice at it's best again.

The team that goes home gets replaced by Jimmy Spencer. Give me a break !!!!

Aarrrrggggghhhhhhhhh !!

Tony obviously needs to go back to class. Maybe Gibbs should pay for the deluxe addition this time around. By the way where did this "cousin carl" come from all of a sudden?

Re: Is Tony Stewart self-destructing?

Maybe the "Victory Junction Gang" could give him back a few bucks to restart the anger management classes.

Someone needs to do something. How about a Home Depot boycott.
