Greatest Race Finish

what is the greatest race finish you have ever seen ?

i actually have 2

when Ricky Craven beat Kurt Busch

that was great

however

the best may be when danny Sullivan spun completly around and still won the Indy 500

that was incredible

Re: Greatet Race Finish

Jeff Gordon went 4 laps down, got back on the lead lap with 100 laps to go to win at martinsville, great win.

03 at Darlington with Ricky and Kurt, and also a finish nobody ever saw. The 1981 Winston 500 with Ron Bouchard, Darrel Waltrip and Terry Labonte 3 wide for the win. Nobody saw it because something happened to the CBS television transmission and people lost picture with a few laps left and could only hear Ken Squire call the finish. Also wen Bill Elliott came back from two laps down under green at Talledega to win the race in '85.

Re: Greatet Race Finish

The one I think was at least one of the greatest was the one Davey Allison won while crossing the finish line on his roof.

That was the Winston!!! That was awesome!!!!!! It sucked that he went to the hospital instead of victory lane, but he still won!!!

Re: Greatest Race Finish

Lot's of great finishes. I'd hate to grade a single one as "greatest."

However, one which I will always remember is the '88 Daytona 500 with Bobby Allison dueling with his son, Davey, for the win. Bobby said in victory lane and repeated many times that that win was his most treasured win.
What made it so darn poignant was that later in the year, Bobby suffered a terrible head injury at Pocono and the memory of the win was erased permanently from his mind.

Between the bumper-to-bumper dueling during the closing laps, and the tragedy of Bobby's lost memory, will make that finish my favourite for a long time.

Yes, Bob that was one of the greatest finishs in my book, as I followed both Bobby and Davey. It is very sad that he has no memory of that race, I can remember it clear as day. Man, I couldn't figure out who I wanted to win more, but the way it turned out was great!!!!

...and Davey wasn't even driving a Yates Ford on that day, either.

That is very true!!!! It was a Ranier-Lundy Ford until he sold the #28 to Yates in October 1988.

Re: Greatest Race Finish

my favorite would be the fall race at talladega in 2000.
Dales last win, 18th with like 4 laps to go and he wins............awsome.

another great race is one of the "busch" clash races at daytona, on the first lap of the last segment dale dropped to the aperon out of turn 2 and past like ten cars..............angain awsome.

we just don't have anyone that can handle a car like dale could, we got guy with really good cars, and win alot, but if the cars ain't right they don't finish well, remember when dale won bristol with no power steering.

I think Tony is the closest thing we have to Dale, and his car control is pretty good.... but not as good as Dale's was.
