I just read in a completely unofficial NASCAR blog that a rumor is going around (around where I know not) that Bruton is trying to buy New Hampshire (Track, not the State) from Bahre. If he is successful, look for a fall NH date to go to Las Vegas.

I repeat, this was only mentioned as a R-U-M-O-R (repeat: RUMOR!) but IF it should prove true... As much as it may pain you good folks up there in New Hampshire, but for those of us who still bear a grudge about Bahre moving the N. Wilksboro date to New Hampshire, it'd be kind of poetic justice.

Speaking for myself only, I dislike New Hampshire; I never expect much good racing from there and, with a couple of exceptions, I've never been disappointed. That said, as bad as I feel NH is, Las Vegas is infinitely worse!

when is someone gonna realize that a 1 1/2 mi. speedway with 100,000 seats, won't sell out. while a 1/2 mi. short track with 150,000 seat will

To the best of my knowledge, the owner petitions NASCAR for the date change, genuflects and kowtows appropriately, possibly crosses some palms with silver, or threatens to make public some 8X10 glossies that a private detective came up with, Then, the date is changed.

The 8x10 glossies usually show people in a compromising position with barnyard poultry. The track owner then gets whatever he wants.

Thats been floating around the savethespeedway boards. If it does happen, it wont happen until Bahre passes (he's 80) because his son would never run it alone. Bruton and Barhe bought and co-owned North Wilkesboro in 1996, which lead to the demise of the speedway. Bahre took the second date at Wilkesboro for NHIS and Bruton took the spring race for his new Texas Motor Speedway. So based on his history, I would say if Bruton does by NHIS in the future, he likely would replace its chase date with Vegas, so I dont want Bruton anywhere near my home track.

Before I quit following stick&ball there was a baseball team owner named Bill Veeck who did much the same thing; i.e. took a team from a long-time baseball city and sold the franchise to the highest bidder, regardless of what the fans wanted.

Ain't this new NASCAR with its new administration, track and team owners, and the rest just about the best thing to hit sports since Vince McMahon and WWF?

Bruton sucks.


He's a good businessman, but monopolizing the track ownership is bad for nascar. I'm sure a car owner could never get away with owning 12 teams.


Before you know it, we'll be watching all the races on PPV and sitting through a drivers strike because thier union tries to ratify a new contract.

I third that. I will never pay to watch a race on pay-per-view tv. When Nascar.com quit doing qualifying for free, I found another site that I can watch all the qualifying for free if I'm at work.
