As boring as it is,(and GAWD, is it ever BORING!), Formula 1 is hands down, the most popular auto racing series in the world. It races on every continent except Antarctica. Please believe me on this: Besides being known here, Canada, somewhat in Mexico and somewhat in England, Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s name is virtually unknown everywhere else in the world. On the other hand, Michael Schumacher is a name recognized in 75% of the countries on earth. He may not be a household name in Chattanooga, but, believe me, in London, Madrid, Berlin, Budapest, Tokyo, and Buenos Aries he is quite well known.

Never had a good ride??? Gee, I seem to remember Davey Allison winning a couple races in the #28 Texaco Ford before he was killed. Kenny was never close in the ten races he ran before Yates fired him. He did have one decent year in what used to be called Busch Grand National Series, but he was driving for a team with Cup affiliations. And that was before BGN became Cup Lite and he actually had to start matching driving skill, not just machinery.
And then you have those irritating Stacker II commercials he used to whine his way through.
Finally, you have that maddening giggle. He sounds like an ostrich in heat!
For my money, Kenny Wallace is a very slight step ahead of Mikey in my popularity department.
Oh, BTW, I really don't care much for him.
Davey Allison??? That was lite years ago, Bob, pulease. I need a better argument that that! Kenny's entertaining! This site's entertaining! I'm not a deep person, as far as this site goes. As I'm sure ya know, Cup is more competitive now. Kenny has had some good runs in Busch. And I love his laugh. Kenny is much more enjoying than Mikey.

Have you ever heard Kenny commentating on the race recaps and he says something like "and there I am wrecking in turn 4"..it makes me chuckle. HA-HA They wer interviewing Tony Stewart 2 weeks ago right after he won and had come out of the mosh pit and Kenny asked him "Tony, were the people grabbing your butt?"...Tony said, only you Kenny would ask that...ROFLMAO Callme crazy...I guess I have a tolerance for levity

Not that I ever wondered, but I'm glad I now know what an ostrich in heat sounds like

Well I must disagree (and thats fine), but being a fill in driver and being a full time driver are 2 different things, if you are a full time driver for a team, you are paid to run hard and try to win. if yiou are a fill in, you are paid to not tear up the car and get a top 20 finish. owner points are what is at steak.
kenny also filled in for steve park for a number of races in the #1 penzoil car, he had some good runs in that car.
kenny got into the substitute driver roll and I believed that cost at ever getting a good shoot at a good ride.

given a good team (#28,#1,#97) for whole season, IMHO Kenny would win a race or two.
I like kenny he's always got something off the wall to say.

I realize that we always wind up on a different subject in threads, as this is a Spencer thread and we are now talking about K. Wallace. It's fine, I can follow along, but please don't be yanking my chain saying Davey Allison was light years ago, it was only 13 years ago!!!! We all talk about King Petty and Dale and nobody says that was light years ago!!!!

I would agree with you if Kenny's stint in the #28 was planned as a fill-in ride. However, since Ernie was still locked into the Morgan-McClure ride when Davey's helicopter went down, Wallace's chance was a bona fide audition.
I think Kenny is a good enough driver to compete in NASCAR's highest level but... Well, my opinion is coloured by his (to me) irritating personality (the same can be said for The Brothers Waltrip). I have never been an admirer of the "Class Clown" type of person.
I refer back to my liver/steak metaphor; it's merely a matter of taste - neither is "bad." Agh...I shudder to think of what a screwed-up world it'd be if everyone thought as I do. Now, THAT is scary!
I remain a firm believer that adults can always agree to disagree.

Re: Jimmy Spencer

Getting back to Spencer; While I mentioned this once a while ago, it bears repeating...back in '95, Dale Sr. once told me tht "Spencer is a waste of an otherwise pretty good race car." Spencer is the sand box bully that should have been put on detiontion before he left home...he brings "jerk" to a whole new lever...and to think tht he is proud of his career! POOP!

Re: Jimmy Spencer

.......

.......a couple of comments...f1 may be boring but it takes a lot of skill to compete in these cars

.......nascar announcing.....nascar[pre race for sure] is simply mimicking other major sports with more details then the average fan wants to hear.......and nothing is usually worse then an ex jock in every sport..they act like they never had a bad day or made a mistake....jaws maybe?

Re: Jimmy Spencer

My, my, my .... so many things to comment on and so little time to do it.

Kenny Wallace .... Just another less than average driver overall who compensates by trying to be funny on the TV. If he were that good of a journalist he wouldn't be stuck where he is. Nothing wrong with the Speed channel but he is only doing a pre-race show. You can also ask why, if you think he is a good driver, he has never scored with a big team and brought home the bacon. He will always be a second rate driver/announcer .... im my opinion.

Most famous racing in the world ... Ahhhh yes in the WORLD. No doubt F1 is the king but since this particular forum is dedicated to us redneck NASCAR fans .... F1 is nothing. I am not and never have been an open wheel fan. The excitement level just isn't the same and while we're at it they don't have any UPS commercials either.

Davey Allison ... Now there was a driver that, in my opinion, was the next great driver in NASCAR. At that time RYR was beginning to get it all together and Davey was the driver that was going to be behind the wheel when it all happened. While we are getting very close to celebrating (??) 13 years without him, he will always be one of the drivers, to me, that could have rivaled the King in many catagories.

Last but certainly not least .... Jimmy Spencer ..... Somebody please tell me what he is or was good at. He wears a wig that looks like a K-Mart wig. He has all the answers to everyone elses driving woes yet was never worth a hill of beans. Leaves a funny taste in my mouth just from watching him. Now that is bad.

In my opinion !
