| Re: Truck Race - Kelly Sutton took Hard Hit Sutton plans to race despite hard crash SCENEDAILY - 12:35PM ET MONDAY JULY 3, 2006 - BY MARK ASHENFELTER - ASSOCIATE EDITOR NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver Kelly Sutton was released from the University of Kansas Hospital on Sunday, one day after suffering bruised ribs and a bruised left elbow in a crash at Kansas Speedway. Sutton was driving back to North Carolina, but told crew chief Gary Showalter that she plans on racing the Sutton Motorsports Chevrolet this weekend at Kentucky. Brad Keselowski, whose family owned K-Automotive Motorsports team is on hiatus due to lack of sponsorship, will be standing by if Sutton determines she can't drive or needs a relief driver. Keselowski has been serving as Sutton's spotter. "The doctor said she's going to be sore for awhile, but she's saying she's ready to go racing," Showalter said Monday. "We'll see when she gets back. They're driving back, they didn't want to fly her back. She said that she just needed to take a nice drive, get out every couple hours and walk around and stretch and then drive some more." Showalter hopes Sutton's able to drive at Kentucky. The team has taken the truck to NASCAR's technical center after Sutton slammed hard into the inside wall. Showalter said the seat and all the leg braces were intact. "She's really lucky she didn't get anything broken," Showalter said. "... She's starting to race better, I just hope this doesn't set her back any." |
